Sheet Mapping Tool

Sheet Mapping Tool is used for creating and editing mapping information between the items of a given taxonomy and cells of a spreadsheet. The mapping information is passed to Instance Creator. Sheet Mapping Tool reads a template instance file and a spreadsheet form file, and shows them visually on the screen. With GUI-based operations such as drag and drop, you can easily define / edit mapping information. In addition, when the spreadsheet form file you load on the application is filled by your data, Sheet Mapping Tool will generate an instance document based on the mapping information. The bottomline here is that once you define mapping information which links your spreadsheet with taxonomy, you can create XBRL instance files just by filling your spreadsheet.

Snapshot

Main view

The application view has three panes. The pane at the bottom is Information pane, where various kind of console messages (e.g. messages informing you the process of loading). The pane at the left top is Sheet pane. It shows the view of spreadsheet you loaded. The pane at the right top is Taxonomy pane. It shows information of taxonomy document you loaded. (Note that what you load is a template XBRL instance file instead of taxonomy itself. The application extracts the taxonomy information out of the instance file for you.)

New Mapping

How to use result mapping information file

When you complete creating a mapping information file, it can immediately be applied to instance creation. Namely, by giving your mapping information file and spreadsheet file with data filled to Instance Creator, you can save a corresponding instance file right now. First, start Instance Creator and open an instance file (in the case of the provided sample, open "/contents/contentE1/taxonomy/BalanceSheet-Classified.xml"). Next, select "Tool" menu and select "Import Values From Excel". "Import Values From Excel" dialog box appears (Fig. 3). Specify your mapping information file to "Mapping Definition File" text area and your spreadsheet file with data filled to "Excel File" text area (in the case of the provided sample, specify "/contents/contentE1/mapping/BalanceSheet-Classified_mapping.xml" and "/contents/contentE1/excel/BalanceSheetClassified_with_Value.xls", respectively). Now you see Input Table pane of Instance Creator is filled with data coming from your spreadsheet. The sample contents can be downloaded in the download page of Sheet Mapping Tool.
