Fujitsu Announces 150 New Jobs in Northern Ireland with an Investment of £8.8m

May 12, 2008 – Fujitsu Services, one of Europe’s leading IT services companies, today announced the creation of 120 jobs in Londonderry and a further 30 in Belfast. This is being made possible with £8.8m of investment from Fujitsu as well as over £2.2m of support from Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI). Fujitsu will establish an Applications Services Centre of Excellence at its Timber Quay site in Londonderry where the majority of the jobs will be based.

Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Wins Substantial BT Re-Manufacturing Contracts in Ireland

Birmingham, May 7, 2008 – Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited announces that its Antrim-based specialist re-manufacturing and repair division, Fujitsu Telecommunications Ireland (FTI), has recently won two major re-manufacturing contracts with a combined value of nearly GB £2.5 million. BT Convergent Solutions has awarded FTI a significant two-year contract for re-manufacturing and component-level repair services. Underlining re-manufacturing’s value as a waste-reduction strategy, the contract will involve the processing of approximately 1500 products per month, and spans around one hundred business-telephone product lines, including legacy products as well as a growing number of IP-based systems. In addition, FTI has also won a two-year contract to re-manufacture and repair BT’s installed base of Sovereign SM1 payphones throughout the UK, with 120 units refurbished in the first month.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers Makes Snapshot Technology Accessible with "My Very First Snapshot"

Munich, May 5, 2008 – In May, Fujitsu Siemens Computers will launch its “My Very First Snapshot” campaign, offering support for four free snapshots with all FibreCAT SX storage systems. In addition, the company offers an upgrade option to extend snapshot capacities – up to 16 snapshots for the FibreCAT SX60 and up to 32 snapshots for FibreCAT SX80 and FibreCAT SX88 models. Upgrade prices have been reduced by 50 percent to give companies an easy and attractive way to get started with snapshot technology, which is an important element of efficient and continual data backup. The campaign, during which customers can save up to €1495 per upgrade, will run from May 1 to October 31, 2008.

The Greener, the Better: Fujitsu Siemens Computers Introduces New Energy-efficient FibreCAT TX Tape Systems

Munich, April 30, 2008 – Fujitsu Siemens Computers announces the second generation of its FibreCAT TX24 and TX48 magnetic tape systems emphasizing multiple green characteristics. Saving to tape is generally more energy-efficient than saving to a hard disk, because no significant amount of power is consumed unless data is read or written to the tape. For the new FibreCAT TX S2 systems, the company has also focused on maintaining low power consumption when in operation, the use of environmentally friendly materials, as well as high and easy scalability, which results in a longer service life for the devices. Small and mid-sized companies can now cover different linear tape-open (LTO) generations with the new systems, automatically save their data with high reliability and protect their investments. The FibreCAT TX24 S2 and TX48 S2 will be available from certified Fujitsu Siemens Computers channel partners starting in June.

Scottish Water Awards £28m IT Transformation Contract to Fujitsu and Anticipates 20% Cost Savings

Fujitsu Siemens Computers Announces Results with a Further Increase in Profitability Despite Slight Dip in Revenues*

Munich, April 16, 2008 – Fujitsu Siemens Computers today reported its financial results for the fiscal year 2007 (FY07). From April 2007 to March 2008, the company increased its profit before tax by 15 percent from 91 to 105 million Euros. The company recorded just above 6.6 billion euros in revenue, which is a decrease of 4,9 percent reflecting the company’s strategic business changes and the difficult market environment.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers Expands its Services Portfolio in the Storage Segment

Munich, April 7, 2008 – Fujitsu Siemens Computers is further extending its services portfolio: effective immediately, the company will begin offering customers servicing for Quantum Scalar i500, Scalar i2000 and Scalar 10k tape libraries. Customers purchasing these tape libraries from Fujitsu Siemens Computers or from the company's channel partners can now obtain equipment installation and maintenance services from the same source. Using the tape libraries along with Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ servers or CentricStor virtual tape solutions will save time and money because customers will only need a single point of contact for their entire solution. Fujitsu Sign £25 Mmillion Deal with Cafcass for Public Sector Flex

March 20, 2008 – Adding the BladeEngine, a unified Ethernet and iSCSI network controller to its PRIMERGY Blade Servers, Cafcass (The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service), a non-departmental public body which looks after the interests of children involved in family legal proceedings, joins public sector Flex. Flex is the framework which allows Fujitsu Services in conjunction with the Cabinet Office to provide information and communication technology (ICT) as a shared service across the public sector. The contract, valued at £25 million, is for a seven year term with a refresh of both hardware and software after four years.

Fujitsu and HHI Achieve Optical Amplitude Noise Reduction Using Ultra High-Speed Optical Switch

Kawasaki, Japan and Berlin, March 6, 2008 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institut(HHI) today announced the development of an ultra high-speed optical switch that uses nonlinear optical fiber to reduce optical amplitude noise, which degrades the quality of optical signals when they are transmitted. Employing this technology, suppression of optical amplitude noise using a 107 gigabit per second (Gbps) phase modulated ultra high-speed signal was successfully verified. In addition, in a data transmission test across 320 km, it was verified that data quality after transmission could be received with roughly the equivalent of its quality prior to transmission.
