26 October 2005 US: NetCOBOL™ for Windows V8.0 Adds Support for WOW64
Sunnyvale, CA, October 26, 2005 – Fujitsu Software Corporation today announced the release of version 8 of its NetCOBOL for Windows product. The NetCOBOL compiler, used to create code that executes millions of business-critical applications each day, is being updated in the Windows environment with a number of detailed enhancements and tuning features, along with official support for executing applications on X64 chips (32-bit, x86, chips that have been extended to support some 64-bit addressing, such as AMD's Opteron and Athlon, and Intel's chips with EM64T – generally grouped using "X64") using Microsoft's WOW64 support for executing 32-bit applications. (Development continues on 32-bit versions of the Windows operating system.)

12 September 2005 US: Scottish & Southern Energy plc Migrates 1.9 TB Database Applications Using Fujitsu’s NetCOBOL for World Class Performance
Sunnyvale, CA, September 12, 2005 – In a case study recently published by Microsoft, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) is publicizing the results of a mainframe-to-Microsoft's .NET Framework migration using Fujitsu Software's NetCOBOL for .NET and Microsoft's SQL Server and Visual Studio. The migration involved taking a 1.9 TB database and associated COBOL applications from DB2 to SQL Server, and resulted in an application that delivered world-ranking performance in both transactions per second and the number of rows in a SQL Server database.
7 September 2005 UK: Fujitsu and Cerner Conclude Contracts for the NHS Connecting for Health NHS Care Records Service in the Southern Cluster
London, September 7, 2005 – After a detailed review, Fujitsu and NHS Connecting for Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2005 agreeing on the use of Cerner Millennium® software for the NHS Care Records Service in the Southern Cluster, subject to a final contract. The contract signing finalises this agreement. Work on the deployment of Cerner systems had commenced immediately in June and has progressed with 17 trusts in the Southern Cluster while the contract negotiations continued. The first systems will go live at around the turn of the year.

7 June 2005 US: DePaul University Study Says Fujitsu Offers a Better Brew than JAVA for Web-Enabling Mission-Critical COBOL/CICS Legacy Applications
Sunnyvale, CA, June 7, 2005 – A study just conducted by DePaul University researchers Dr. Howard A. Kanter and Dr. Thomas J. Muscarello of The Laboratory for Software Metrics concluded that when Fujitsu Software solutions combined with Visual Studio .NET 2003 are used, the time required to Web-enable mission-critical COBOL/CICS legacy applications is on average less than 3 percent of the time needed to rewrite the applications in JAVA. A common understanding has been that rewriting was one of the few choices available if applications were to take advantage of newer technologies like the Microsoft .NET Framework™. This study indicates there are other more viable routes. These applications still provide tremendous value but are on costly platforms with limited tools to extend them for today's business needs. Companies have made a huge investment in mainframe applications and this migration allows them to maximize that investment by extending it to newer platforms.

Finland, June 7, 2005 – Fujitsu Services Oy's upgraded Pocket Office mobile communication system will provide services in real-time for the members of the Finnish parliament. The new Pocket Office will mobilize the groupware for the members of the parliament, including email and calendar, among other things. The service will automatically push new emails and calendar events to mobile phone, without any user action.

4 January 2005 Finland: Yomi Signs with Fujitsu for Patja Service
Helsinki, January 4, 2005 – IT and communications technology group Yomi Software Oy transfers its IT infrastructure to Fujitsu's Patja service. The four-year agreement covers the management of 100 servers and services for 300 workstations in five Finnish cities.
