Fujitsu Develops Breakthrough Technology for Low-Cost Production of Gallium-Nitride HEMT

Tokyo, December 21, 2004 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of a technology that enables low-cost production of gallium-nitride (GaN)(*1) high electron mobility transistors (HEMT)(*2), a key technology in mobile base station amplifiers for 3G and future generations. This breakthrough technology reduces GaN HEMT production costs to less than one-third that of conventional levels, thereby contributing to the realization of lower-cost GaN HEMT-based amplifiers.

Fujitsu Wins Multi-Million BT Contract with Skanska

Birmingham, December 10, 2004 – Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, announces that a Skanska Fujitsu joint venture has been awarded a major contract by UK-based telecom operator BT. The equal-share partnership will be providing BT with build-out and network upgrade services during the contract, which has a total value of some 130 million GBP, with the project forming an integral part of BT's network upgrade programme. Within Fujitsu, the company's Network Support Services (NSS) division will be managing the contract, working in partnership with Skanska, while reinforcing its long-established role in supporting BT's network.

Fujitsu, University of Tokyo Develop World's First 10Gbps Quantum Dot Laser Featuring Breakthrough Temperature-Independent Output

Tokyo, September 10, 2004 – Fujitsu Limited and a research group at the University of Tokyo led by Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa, today announced the joint development of a quantum dot (*1) laser that succeeds in minimizing temperature-sensitive output fluctuations, which was not possible with semiconductor lasers in the past. The newly developed quantum dot laser achieves high-speed operation of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) across a temperature range of 20°C to 70°C without electrical current adjustments, and has minimal output fluctuations caused by changes in temperature. This breakthrough technology will pave the way for compact, low-cost, and low power-consumption optical transmitters targeting optical metro-access systems (*2) and high-speed optical LAN (*3) for which further development continues.

University of Tokyo and Fujitsu Succeed in World's First Single-photon Emission in Data Transmission Wavelengths for Quantum Encryption

Tokyo, July 15, 2004 – The University of Tokyo's Nanoelectronics Collaborative Research Center and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the joint development of technologies that generate and measure single-photons, succeeding in observing the world's first emission of single-photons in data transmission wavelengths. The newly developed technologies pave the way for accelerating speeds for quantum encryption data transmission, considered the ultimate method of encrypted transmission, to 400 times faster than the data transmission speeds of conventional quantum encryption that could only transfer data at a few hundred bits per second (bps). The technologies represent a major step forward towards the practical application of quantum encryption data transmission.

Fujitsu Expands Copper Connector Offering for High-Speed Switching Applications

Sunnyvale, CA, April 5, 2004 – Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today announced it has expanded its high-speed copper microGiGaCN™ connector series by adding a vertical board-mount I/O socket. Fujitsu Awarded Contract for SEA-ME-WE 4 Submarine Optical Network

Tokyo, March 30, 2004 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has been selected by the Sea-Me-We 4 consortia, together with its co-contractor Alcatel, to construct a high-capacity fibre optic submarine cable network, as part of the Sea-Me-We 4 submarine optical network linking Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Western Europe. The new terabit cable system will support more than 32 times the initial transmission capacity of the previous Sea-Me-We 3 network.

Fujitsu Announces a New APD Receiver Optical Sub Assembly

San Jose, CA, February 23, 2004 – Fujitsu Compound Semiconductor, Inc. (FCSI) of San Jose, CA announces a new APD Receiver Optical Sub Assembly (ROSA) for 10G Base-ER Ethernet and 10Gb/s SONET / SDH LR2 applications. The APD ROSA is designed for Xenpack, X2 transponder, and XFP transceiver applications. An APD and a TIA are integrated in a small 8 pin package - FRM5N141QW (LC) and FRM5N141QY (SC). Including the receptacle, the package size is W5.7 x H5.7 x L17 mm. The receptacle has a fiber stub to guarantee an optical return loss of 27 dB. A thermistor is also integrated into the package for APD temperature monitoring. The APD ROSA has a high sensitivity of -27 dBm typical and low TIA power consumption of 0.3 W or less.
