Kawasaki, November 12, 2003 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of a revolutionary new plasma tube technology to produce narrow glass tubes, measuring one meter in length and one-millimeter in diameter, that emit light using the same phosphor structure as in a conventional PDP (plasma display panel). In addition, the company has developed a technology that sandwiches an array of these plasma tubes between two electrode plates to make up a display panel. Fujitsu succeeded in producing a prototype panel using 128 plasma tubes (for a screen size of 128 mm x 1 m) that display moving images in color.
Tokyo, November 10, 2003 – Fujitsu Limited and Tokai University's School of Medicine today announced the successful validation of the new computational method of quantum chemical calculations for drug discovery. The feasibility of the new method was validated and successfully proved by reproducing the biological activities of several AIDS drugs. These computing-based experiments can drastically reduce the number of animal experiments and other conventional techniques in favor of a new computational method - world's fastest Local Self-Consistent Field (Local SCF) method - developed by Fujitsu. This development opens new horizons for the application of quantum chemical calculations in drug discovery.
Tokyo, November 5, 2003 – Fujitsu Limited today announced that, together with Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., it has developed a massively parallel simulation server, code-named the "BioServer," that will form the core system for Fujitsu's Genomics-based Drug Design Solutions (*1). The companies also announced that ZOEGENE Corporation (*2), their partner in the biotechnology field, has started validation tests of the BioServer. As an application server specially designed for genomics-based drug design, the BioServer represents a tremendous leap in the effectiveness of genomics-based drug design, enabling greater speed and precision to be applied to the analysis of the structures and functions of proteins, and thereby paving the way towards personalized medicine and the development of novel biopharmaceutical treatments.
Tokyo, Japan / Munich, Germany, October 6, 2003 – Fujitsu Limited and Siemens Business Services, a 100 percent subsidiary of Siemens AG, today announced an agreement that will further enhance the two companies' strong regional presence in the field of IT services. The agreement will enable Fujitsu to offer its multinational Japanese customers enhanced coverage in global services in areas of Europe and North America where it does not operate directly. Siemens Business Services now will be able to enhance its service for global customers by drawing on Fujitsu's resources in the Asia Pacific region.
Kawasaki, Japan / Sunnyvale, CA, USA, October 6, 2003 – Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. today announced that they have developed an open protocol to bring automated negotiation to the electronic marketplace. Computers representing two sides of an e-commerce transaction can generate and exchange proposals back and forth until they find a set of terms that is optimal for both sides. Experienced negotiators know that when a negotiation is enlarged to include a richer set of business terms it becomes easier for both sides to extract value from the transaction. By using computers to automate the negotiation process, a very large number of business terms can be used. This allows both sides to extract more value from each transaction than ever before. This will make e-commerce transactions more efficient, and potentially create entirely new markets.
Tokyo, October 3, 2003 – FDK CORPORATION developed the world's smallest compact actuator unit, "FCU103" for auto focus function in 1,000,000 pixels class camera-equipped cell-phones. Subminiature cameras in 1,000,000 pixels class camera-equipped cell-phones are expected to have auto focus function, such as in short-distance shooting and macro shooting, adjustment of blurred focus, which enable efficient use of mega pixels.
Singapore, August 20, 2003 – Fujitsu Asia today announced that it will be exhibiting its inaugural "Go-To-Market" Laboratory (GTM Lab) at iX 2003.
