28 October 2005 Japan: Astellas and Fujitsu Sign Agreement for Information-System Outsourcing
Tokyo, October 28, 2005 – Astellas Pharma Inc. ("Astellas") and Fujitsu Limited ("Fujitsu") today announced that they have reached an information-system outsourcing agreement on October 28. Under the agreement, the operation of Astellas' information systems which has been handled by Astellas Systems Co.,Ltd. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Astellas, "Astellas Systems") and its headquarter ERP systems will be outsourced to Fujitsu.

27 October 2005 Japan: Fujitsu Reports FY 2005 First-Half Financial Results
Tokyo, October 27, 2005 – Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 2,192.3 billion yen (approximately US$19,231 million*) for the first half of fiscal 2005 (April 1, 2005 - September 30, 2005), a decrease of 1.2% over the first half of fiscal 2004. Excluding the impact of accounting policy changes and restructuring, sales were essentially flat. Although intensified competition led to lower year-on-year sales of LSI devices and PCs, sales of optical transmission systems and hard disk drives (HDDs) rose sharply, and sales of outsourcing services in the UK were robust.

26 October 2005 US: NetCOBOL™ for Windows V8.0 Adds Support for WOW64
Sunnyvale, CA, October 26, 2005 – Fujitsu Software Corporation today announced the release of version 8 of its NetCOBOL for Windows product. The NetCOBOL compiler, used to create code that executes millions of business-critical applications each day, is being updated in the Windows environment with a number of detailed enhancements and tuning features, along with official support for executing applications on X64 chips (32-bit, x86, chips that have been extended to support some 64-bit addressing, such as AMD's Opteron and Athlon, and Intel's chips with EM64T – generally grouped using "X64") using Microsoft's WOW64 support for executing 32-bit applications. (Development continues on 32-bit versions of the Windows operating system.)
25 October 2005 Japan: Fujitsu Palm Vein Authentication Technology Wins The Wall Street Journal 2005 Technology Innovation Award for Security in Networks
Kawasaki, Japan, October 25, 2005 – Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. today announced that its palm vein authentication technology has won The Wall Street Journal's 2005 Technology Innovation Award, for Security in Networks. Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology is a biometric technology that recognizes the unique vein pattern of a person's palm, as a highly secure means of personal identification. This technology is extremely difficult to forge compared to other methods of biometric security, since palm vein patterns are internal to the body. Fujitsu's palm vein authentication technology is also hygienic, as the scanning is contactless, thereby requiring no direct surface contact with the scanning device even when used in public applications. Fujitsu has commercialized this technology, which thus far has been implemented in bank ATMs, for room entry access in hospitals and residential condominiums, and for access to personal records and transcripts at academic institutions.

Paris, October 5, 2005 – Fujitsu Systems Europe and ESI Group (ESIN FR0004110310) announce a partnership to extend the validation of ESI's world-leading applied mechanics technology with the SynfiniWay™ service-oriented platform for collaborative computing from Fujitsu. The first validation of SynfiniWay with ESI Group products was made with the PAM-CRASH application for crash simulation, a solution that has been deployed in production through the joint pay-per-use Application Service Provider (ASP) business with Fujitsu Systems Europe. End-users connect to the ASP site managed by Fujitsu Systems Europe using a SynfiniWay client interface, which ensures complete run-time security of the compute servers and manages the automatic transfer and encryption of data between the server and desktop machine. Initial clients for this PAM-CRASH ASP include automotive manufacturers and sub-contractors wishing to benefit from access to peak-load capacity or scalable systems to solve larger problems.
