Fujitsu Reports FY 2004 First-Quarter Financial Results

Tokyo, July 29, 2004 – Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 1,008.1 billion yen (approximately US$9,249 million*) for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 (April 1, 2004 - June 30, 2004), an increase of 7.4% over the same period last year. Although first-quarter sales in the Software & Services segment rose only slightly year-on-year, sales of semiconductors, hard disk drives and plasma display panels increased significantly. Sales also rebounded sharply in servers, mobile and IP networks and other categories in Fujitsu's Platforms segment.

Munich , July 22, 2004 – Fujitsu Siemens Computers is boosting the appeal of its entry-level monoprocessor servers with the new S2 generation of its PRIMERGY TX150 tower server and RX100 rack server. The PRIMERGY TX150 S2 has been enhanced to operate even more economically while offering better performance and reliability. Its sheer range of functionality and high performance is as convincing as the integration of quality future-oriented technology. The PRIMERGY RX100 S2, meanwhile, symbolizes ultra-compact economy with its improved utility and expanded data center fail safety. Fujitsu Demonstrates Serial Attached SCSI and Serial ATA Interoperability at SAS Plugfest

San Jose, CA, July 20, 2004 – Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today announced successful interoperability testing of its small form factor (SFF) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and 2.5" Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drives. The interoperability testing was conducted during the SAS plugfest conducted the week of June 21, 2004 in the Interoperability Lab at the University of New Hampshire. Fujitsu was the only manufacturer able to demonstrate both SAS and SATA interoperability with its own SFF SAS and 2.5" SATA hard disk drives.

Fujitsu Expands Itanium-Based Product Portfolio With PRIMERGY RXI300 Two-Way Rack Server

Sunnyvale, CA, July 20, 2004 – Fujitsu Computer Systems today rolled out a new 64-bit dual-processor Intel® Itanium™ 2 rack server, extending its Itanium-based product portfolio. Ideal for space-constrained data centers, the new PRIMERGY® RXI300 server is two height units (2U) and accommodates one or two Itanium 2 processors operating at 1.40 GHz, 1.50 GHz or 1.60 GHz. The cost-effective 1.40 GHz and 1.60 GHz processors are optimized for dual-processor servers and incorporate a 3 MB third-level cache. The high-performance 1.50 GHz processor, code-named Madison, features a 6 MB third-level cache to greatly improve processor utilization.

University of Tokyo and Fujitsu Succeed in World's First Single-photon Emission in Data Transmission Wavelengths for Quantum Encryption

Tokyo, July 15, 2004 – The University of Tokyo's Nanoelectronics Collaborative Research Center and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the joint development of technologies that generate and measure single-photons, succeeding in observing the world's first emission of single-photons in data transmission wavelengths. The newly developed technologies pave the way for accelerating speeds for quantum encryption data transmission, considered the ultimate method of encrypted transmission, to 400 times faster than the data transmission speeds of conventional quantum encryption that could only transfer data at a few hundred bits per second (bps). The technologies represent a major step forward towards the practical application of quantum encryption data transmission.
