Fujitsu Siemens Computers Clusters PRIMERGY Servers for High-performance Computing Applications

Heidelberg, June 27, 2003 – At the 18th International Supercomputer Conference held in Heidelberg from 25-27 June 2003, Fujitsu Siemens Computers announced its plans to use PRIMERGY servers with single or dual processors as compute nodes in Linux hpcLine clusters for High Performance Computing. This will make it possible to assemble hpcLine systems — including rack assembly and interconnect — entirely from standard components. The compact rack models of PRIMERGY servers are targeted at hpcLine users who want high performance at attractive pricing. The PRIMERGY server generates approximately the same amount of heat as a PC and is so compact, that it is possible to fit up to 42 servers with 84 processors in a single rack.

Tokyo, June 18, 2003 – Fujitsu Limited today announced record-breaking results for its PRIMEPOWER™ 2500 UNIX® system in the SPECjbb_2000 Java performance benchmark. Breaking the one million operations per second barrier for the first time, Fujitsu achieved performance of 1,420,177 operations per second with a 112-way PRIMEPOWER 2500 system using the company's 1.3GHz SPARC64® V processors, shattering records previously set by HP, Sun and IBM in the same performance tests. In the 64-way server category, as well, PRIMEPOWER 2500 outpaced the competition with performance of over 800,000 operations per second. BT's £1/2 million+ Emergency Recovery Unit Project Turned Around in Record Time

Birmingham, June 12, 2003 – Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, announces the completion of a fast-track project to design, supply and install several self-contained mobile infrastructure units (MIUs), each weighing some 14 tonnes fully equipped. Involving an investment in excess of £0.5 million, the BT MIUs are designed to be deployed anywhere in the country in no more than 12 hours, in order to restore vital communications in the event of an emergency. The portable units represent a key component in BT's "business as usual" policy, ensuring that the communications infrastructure can be restored as quickly as possible in the case of a major service disruption. In February 2003, BT awarded the contract to Fujitsu to kit out the MIUs, with the first commissioned at the end of May - just 12 weeks later.
