Application by Internet Digital Applications

This is a system set up to demonstrate the positive effects for both parties (in terms of reduced workload and saved time) that digitization using XML can have on the submission of applications and reports by companies and individuals to government offices (procedures that normally involve a large amount of paperwork).
Using XML for such tasks increases efficiency and speeds up procedures.

First, the government office creates an application form template as an XML document and makes this available on the Web.
The applicant then uses this template to create an application form, fills it in, signs it with a digital signature, and submits the application.
The government office checks that the application is correct. If it is, the application is stored in the document management system. If it is not, the location of the mistake is marked with a digital tag and the application is returned to the applicant for correction and re-submission.

Benefits of Using XML

  • Because XML uses tags to classify data, it is possible to extract essential data from application forms that, when represented as documents, outwardly appear quite different. This also means that it is possible to improve the efficiency of data-processing because the same data can be put to practical use in a variety of scenarios. Furthermore, when application forms in XML format are modified or added to, the effects of such changes are restricted to the location of the change (i.e., there is no need to recreate the entire form). This in turn also improves processing speed and increases efficiency.
  • Although the application form itself is an XML document, there may be documents attached to it that are in other formats (such as Word documents). The link between the form and any attachments is maintained in XML. Also, mistakes that need correcting in application forms can be tagged with XML links.
