Lotte Department Store is Korea's largest retailer, and the Pusan branch, which opened in December 1995, boasts one of the world's largest store layouts. When looking for an effective information system the store adopted Fujitsu's TeamPoS as their POS system.

Why did they choose TeamPoS? Mr. Kim Chang Bo, manager of computer services at the Pusan branch, explains, "When we were going through the selection process for POS system we had many requests from our sales staff. Some of the more essential items that were requested are thermal printers and radio POS systems. As it turned out, the only system that could meet all these needs was TeamPoS."

TeamPoS is ideal for retail industry software that requires expandability and compatibility. Built around international standard architecture (with PC/AT Compatibility), the system allows users to upgrade functions such as processing speed simply by changing CPU boards. With TeamPoS upgrading to a more advanced system is possible at any time. And because it's not necessary to change the software to achieve system enhancement, unnecessary expenses can be avoided. The Pusan store's TeamPoS is designed to evolve and keep up with the growth of the store itself.

TeamPoS can also be connected to various peripheral devices, including key-locking POS-type and PC-type keyboards, magnetic card readers, operator / customer displays, POS printers, scanners, closed-circuit and radio LAN equipment. The user can combine various types of peripheral devices to achieve the desired configuration.

Mr. Kim continues, "One of the great advantages of TeamPoS was the establishment of a radio POS system using radio LAN equipment. There are no cables, so it's easy to change the location of the POS system, and even change the layout of the store. The ability to change the floor layout is especially important in special event areas, where the items on sale are always changing. This can't be done without a radio POS system."

He also points out, "Thermal printers contribute greatly to a reduction in customer check-out time when compared with conventional POS systems. On the evenings our food sections are particularly crowded, filled with customers buying food for dinner. Now they don't have to endure long waits in the checkout lanes. If it weren't for TeamPoS, I'm sure they'd have to wait in long queues." (The thermal printer used In the TeamPoS system is a high-speed unit that prints at a rate of 125mm/second.)

Mr. Kim adds, "TeamPoS also reduces the burden on the cashiers. After closing time, cashiers were responsible for counting the money in the registers and sorting out the receipt slips, but now TeamPoS performs all this calculation and processing work automatically."

He also tells us, "Fujitsu's service division is very supportive. They offer a total support in all fields, including system engineering, sales, and program development." His comments clearly state that Fujitsu is not merely a supplier. We are a reliable business partner. Our role doesn't stop with selling products to our customers. It's our duty to continue supporting our customers after the sale.

Lotte intends to open more stores and extend the range of its retail operations with discount stores, convenience stores and other related retail outlets. Fujitsu and TeamPoS together support Lotte's ambitious vision of becoming one of the world's 30 largest corporations by the end of the decade.
