Fujitsu's Concept of Accessibility (*Note 1)

Human Centered Design

We at the Fujitsu Group regard the idea of "Human Centered Design" (*Note 2) as our top design policy, placing the "human" in the center of our perspectives in regard to the development of both products and services.

Based on the idea of "Human Centered Design," we think it is important to make our products and services not only high-performance and functional, but also accessible for all. That is to say, universal design (*Note 3).

In order to promote the idea of accessibility, the following 4 principles are being applied to the of products and services.

  • Provide a wide variety of interaction options to ensure that differences in physical abilities, such as visual and auditory deficits, do not limit accessibility to our products and services.
  • Create dimensions, layout, and controls in order to minimize physical stress and fatigue and flexibly accommodate the physical differences of various users such as body type, strength, motor and posture controls, or the need for wheelchairs or devices.
  • Present easy to understand and user-friendly information that takes into consideration users with different backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and languages.
  • Design interfaces with outstanding usability - enhancing safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction for workers.

NOTE:

(*Note 1) Accessibility: An idea and/or degree of ease of use for people with disabilities, elderly person, and various types of people in accessing equipment, hardware, software, services and the environment.

(*Note 2) Human Centered Design: Placing "human" in the center of the design process. Setting the highest importance on users' opinions, characteristics and situation, and reflecting these factors into the design.

(*Note 3) Universal Design: Like accessibility, an idea and/or design outcome that is considered to be usable by all people including a variety of those with different levels of ability.
