Fujitsu Group to Carry out Joint Disaster Response Drills

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, August 29, 2013

Fujitsu today announced that it will carry out Group-wide disaster response drills throughout Japan on the first day of Disaster Prevention Week, August 30, 2013. Disaster prevention drills are held annually in Japan, on Disaster Prevention Day, September 1st, or in this case, on the previous working day. This year will mark the nineteenth time that these disaster prevention drills have been carried out.

This year, the Fujitsu Group will perform drills based on a scenario in which the Tokyo metropolitan area, where Fujitsu's management is concentrated, is the epicenter of an earthquake that causes damage. The drills will verify the company's ability to establish a temporary central disaster response headquarters in the Kansai region and put initial disaster response measures into place in coordination with each Group worksite that sustained damage.

In addition, Fujitsu Group worksites across Japan will perform initial response drills, such as confirming the safety of employees as well as evaluating damage to property structures and equipment immediately following the scenario's disaster.

By carrying out these drills, Fujitsu will build upon its Group-wide system for quickly making initial response to disasters while also promoting strong business continuity capabilities.

Overview of the Fujitsu Group Joint Disaster Response Drills

(1) Date and time: Friday, August 30, 2013, from 13:30 to 17:00

(2) Participating Group Companies: Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu FSAS Inc., Fujitsu Semiconductor Limited

(3) No. of Participants: Approx. 200 people

(4) Main Contents of the Drills

  1. Fujitsu will establish temporary response headquarter facilities at unaffected sites, such as Kansai System Laboratory in Chuo Ward, Osaka, to function as alternatives to Tokyo headquarters and business units that have sustained damage in the scenario. To support the business continuity of customers in the affected Tokyo metropolitan area as well as Fujitsu's own business continuity, simulation drills will be performed for a period of up to fifty hours following the earthquake at these temporary response headquarter facilities and affected sites.
  2. At Fujitsu FSAS, drills will be held to relocate technical support and call centers, which are concentrated in Tokyo, to its main location in Western Japan, in Kita Ward, Osaka. Fujitsu FSAS will also conduct drills to help customers in the Tokyo metropolitan area restore their ICT systems, and, using a helicopter, will aid customers by transporting critical supplies from the Nagoya Parts Center in Naka Ward, Nagoya, to the Akiruno Technology Center in Akiruno, Tokyo.
  3. At the Fujitsu Semiconductor Group, a temporary response headquarters will be established at the Akiruno Technology Center that will operate as an alternative to their damaged headquarters in Kohoku Ward, Yokohama. The disaster response headquarters will perform initial response drills to collect damage information and ensure business continuity.

Together with these Group-wide disaster response drills, an approximately two-hour disaster scenario video will be distributed across the company intranet to each Fujitsu Group office in Japan. While observing this video, each office will perform initial response simulation drills, such as confirming the safety of employees, evaluating damage to property and equipment, and performing first aid.
