Fujitsu today announced the release of Interstage Application Server V10.1, the latest version of its application execution platform, in Japan only.
In addition to Java EE 5, J2EE, COBOL, and C, the server supports the latest version of Java, Java EE 6(1), so that applications developed in multiple programming languages can be simultaneously executed on one application server. As applications developed using the latest Java EE 6, as well as work-in-progress, can be executed without making any adjustments to the existing systems or operations, the new server is ideal for consolidating work.
Moreover, as it supports jQuery Mobile, the open source application development framework for smart devices such as smartphones and tablets, the server can be used for the development and execution of web applications for all types of smart devices running iOS, Android, or Windows Phone. Users can now access their own company's operations systems, such as sales support and inventory management systems, using smart devices when they are outside the office.
The new application server also uses Fujitsu's Smart Set-up feature for easy deployments, and Smart Tuning feature making application responses more stable – both of which are based on Fujitsu's Smart Software technology(2).
Through Interstage Application Server V10.1, existing operations applications resources that had run on older versions of the Interstage Application Server, can be executed alongside new operations applications using the latest Java EE6. As a result, legacy and new operations using the latest specifications can be consolidated on the same server.
Interstage Application Server V10.1 is the only application server in the world with a high degree of compatibility to run operations applications that were developed using Java, COBOL, and C on simply one server.
As the server supports Java EE 6, descriptors for web.xml(3) essential for previous web applications, can now be represented in one line. As a result, the amount of code for an application can be reduced by up to half of what was previously required, greatly improving development efficiency.
As the operational verification of applications created can be performed by using Java VM(4), an additional application server for testing purposes is no longer necessary, further improving development efficiency.
The new server supports jQuery Mobile, an application development framework with an established reputation in the area of smart devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Using a rich suite of development components, including toolbars and buttons optimized for the display screen of smart devices, applications can easily be developed simply with HTML knowledge.
Furthermore, as the applications created are not dependent on a specific model type, one application can be used for various smart devices running iOS, Android, or Windows Phone.
With the new application server, Fujitsu is providing its Smart Set-up and Smart Tuning features, which employ Fujitsu's proprietary Smart Software technology that optimizes software for ease of use. The Smart Set-up feature makes it easy to deploy the server and set the initial settings. The Smart Tuning feature makes application responses more stable.

 Java EE 6
The latest version of the industry standard specification for use in mission-critical systems using Java. It includes Servlet, a standard specification for web applications, as well as sub-specifications, such as JSP.
 Smart Software Technology
Fujitsu's proprietary technology that evaluates its own hardware and software environment and optimizes for greater simplicity and peace of mind.
An XML file that defines the operations of a web application.
 Java VM
Java Virtual Machine. After a Java program is written, it is compiled by a Java compiler into a proprietary format called Java bytecode. The Java VM converts the instructions defined in the bytecode into the native code of the platform in use.
