Fujitsu Ranks in Newsweek's Global Top 500 Green Companies

Fujitsu provides savings and environmental benefits to customers

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, October 20, 2011

Fujitsu today announced it has been included in the Newsweek Green Global 500 Rankings, coming in as Number 13. The Newsweek Green Rankings places companies based on their actual environmental footprint, management of that footprint and sustainability communications. The analysis provides a reliable, cross-industry framework for comparing the environmental commitment and performance of major companies.

Now in its third year, the Newsweek Green Rankings assesses the environmental performance of the largest publicly traded companies in America. This year, the range has been expanded to include the largest international companies: the Global 500 list.

Newsweek's is a rigorous, peer-reviewed research process, including both quantitative and qualitative data from some of the world's leading environmental research organizations. Given the ranking's visibility, it presents a strong incentive for companies to work on improving their environmental impact and multi-stakeholder dialogue.

Minoru Takeno, president of Fujitsu's Corporate Environmental Strategy Unit, commented that "This ranking demonstrates that Fujitsu's business is Green. We strive to reduce our environmental load throughout supply chains as well as to benefit our customers by providing Green ICT products and services. We will continue working to further enhance our global environmental action as a leading company in environmental management."

Fujitsu's debut at the Number 13 position-representing the highest-ranked Japanese company on this year's expanded list of Global 500 companies-is an acknowledgment of its track record of environmental activities. Recognized were the various initiatives it has undertaken to realize a prosperous, low-carbon society, a goal of the company's medium-term environmental vision known as Green Policy 2020. Specific Fujitsu aims include environmentally conscious products and realizing zero emissions from its factories and offices in Japan. Fujitsu's environmental reporting was praised as outstanding, with high marks for not only information provided on its homepage, but also for the company's thorough compliance with GRI Guidelines(1) when disclosing information via its Sustainability Report.
