Fujitsu Wins Minister of the Environment Award for Energy-saving PRIMERGY BX900 Blade Server

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, November 26, 2009

Fujitsu today announced that it has been awarded the 2009 Minister of the Environment Award for the Prevention of Global Warming for the development of the PRIMERGY BX900 blade server system, which Japan's Ministry of the Environment praised as being energy efficient and placing a low demand on datacenter air-conditioning systems.

PRIMERGY BX900

The award is given as part of the Ministry of the Environment's efforts to promote measures that reduce global warming, and has been granted annually since 1998 during the month of December, which the ministry has designated Global Warming Prevention Month. The award recognizes individuals or organizations that have made noteworthy achievements in combating global warming.

Background

The PRIMERGY BX900 blade server system is designed for dynamically changing IT infrastructures, with superior performance per watt and virtualization capabilities, resulting in a blade server with low power demands and low operating costs. The system supports infrastructure designs that plan for expansion, both in terms of large-scale server consolidation and business growth, and can contribute to a customer's success by providing a standardized system platform.

The 2009 Minister of the Environment Award recognizes the advance that the BX900 represents over existing blade servers by solving the problems of power consumption and heat generation through the use of carefully chosen low-power components and efficient cooling within the blade server.

In addition to reducing the power consumed by each blade server, the BX900 also has the benefit of reducing air-conditioning requirements for a datacenter as a whole. Specifically, the BX900 delivers a 40% savings in power consumption compared to Fujitsu's rackmount servers from three years ago. It was these features that were recognized in the ministry's granting of the award.
