- Web application-enabled terminal enhances work productivity -

Fujitsu Limited,Fujitsu Frontech Limited

Tokyo, September 14, 2009

Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Frontech Limited today announced the availability of Patio700(1), a mobile order management terminal for use in convenience stores and other retail locations. Sales of the new terminal begin in Japan today.

The terminal is equipped with Microsoft Windows Embedded POSReady 2009(2), allowing it to easily run web applications required by customers, and enabling infrastructure systems to be concentrated more efficiently in datacenters.

As a result, data inputted into the mobile terminal are no longer required to be loaded onto a backend system. Instead, orders are quickly recorded over the Internet, delivering enhanced work productivity. Furthermore, the terminal combines high standards of durability and security, offering reassurance to retailers.

Patio700 will be on display at the Fujitsu booth during the 11th Annual Auto-ID Expo, which will be held September 16-18 at Tokyo Big Site.

Due to the increasing prevalence of the Internet in recent years, there has been a trend towards centralized datacenters located separately from application servers. With the increased use of corporate Intranet systems, retailers need to combine the functionality of internal e-mail and various management systems into one single terminal.

In response to these demands, Fujitsu, in coordination with Fujitsu Frontech, has integrated into its lineup and begun sales of the web application-enabled Patio700.

Main Features

Within a retail setting, Patio700 is a mobile order management terminal perfect for enabling employees to view merchandise while submitting orders using the unit's large touch-screen.

  1. Web application-enabled capability
By taking advantage of web applications, the Patio700 can manage orders of perishable goods and other products with short shelf lives, thereby ameliorating unnecessary waste and opportunity losses in merchandise, and improving profitability.
  2. Hardware security functionality
The terminal is equipped with a dedicated security key option enabling it to automatically lock and suspend operations if the user moves away from it, and automatically unlock when the user returns. This function prevents data information leaks that occur when the terminal is left unattended.
  3. Superior durability
Patio700 has been designed for use under harsh conditions. While turned on, the terminal can withstand the impact of being dropped onto concrete from a height of 1.2m(3). In addition to boasting IP54(4) dust and drip-proof compliance on all surfaces, including its rear, the terminal can withstand a static electrical discharge of 15kV.
  4. Running time of approximately six consecutive hours
With a battery life of approximately six hours(5), the terminal conserves energy by using an LED backlight in its LCD screen.
