Fujitsu Deploys Fully-Functional Smartphones for JA Bank Hyogo

-Linking the nationwide computer system of JA’s credit business with smartphones for the first time-

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, August 14, 2009

Fujitsu today announced that it has won an order from JA Bank Hyogo to develop a system streamlining the field service operations of their credit business by linking smartphones with the company's nationwide computer system known as JASTEM.

The Windows® F1100 mobile smartphone incorporates the functions of both JA Bank Hyogo's portable hand-held terminals used in field service operations, and its JASTEM computer system which manages customer savings and loan information. As a result, the new system will provide convenience in handling as well as ensuring robust security during on-site customer visits thus allowing the company to reduce its system implementation costs.

Field service representatives regularly carry both a portable hand-held terminal and mobile phone to on-site visits with the customers. By combining the two systems into one, Fujitsu has eased the burden of carrying both devices and enhanced the convenience of telecommunications and business operations.

Given the extensive security measures built into the smartphone which include data encryption, data wiping software, and fingerprint authentication technology, confidential customer information will be protected even in the remote chance that the device is lost.

The interoperability between JASTEM and the F1100 mobile smartphone was successfully verified in July 2009. System development is currently underway and overall operations (with approximately 1,000 smartphones) are slated to begin in January 2010.

To respond to the demands of rapidly changing financial markets, JA Bank Hyogo searched for a system supporting its field service operations which would enhance the speed and thoroughness of its customer services while ensuring robust security over valuable customer information.

Fujitsu's system incorporating the F1100 mobile smartphone was selected due to high praise of the device, pointing to its lightweight, easy-to-use construction; robust security; and compatibility in connecting with other systems due to the high versatility of Windows OS.

System Operations

Using the JASTEM terminals installed at each JA office branch, field service representatives can import information required for the day's scheduled visits to the smartphone. While on-site with a customer, they can input transactions into the smartphone and print receipts using the accompanying portable printer, as well as perform financial simulations to calculate interest rates and loan return figures. After returning to the office, field service representatives update the JASTEM system through the smartphone.

System Features

  1. F1100 smartphone with integrated portable hand-held terminal functions
    space
    • Compact and lightweight (30% lighter) when compared with previous special-use portable terminals, allowing reduced implementation costs. As the device is a mobile phone, users are provided with an added level of convenience.
    • Bluetooth wireless communication function allows utilization of a portable printer to print out essential documents during on-site visits.
  2. Extensive security countermeasures
    space
    • The installed security software in the smartphone enables encryption of both its embedded memory and external data. The device also includes a data wipe function alongside a number of additional security measures that counteract the risk of loss and information leaks.
    • The smartphone comes equipped with standard fingerprint authentication to ensure user identification.

In addition to adopting the system to support its field service operations, JA Bank Hyogo is also considering incorporating the F1100 smartphone in a number of its internal systems, such as its e-mail system.

Through its extensive track record of system development, Fujitsu will continue to contribute to the expansion of JA Bank Hyogo's mobile operations and help further enhance operational efficiency.
