Fujitsu simplifies unified datacenter and Cloud computing management with Resource Coordinator VE

– Server management software creates dynamic infrastructures –

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, Munich, London, May 12, 2009

A powerful new resource enabling enterprises to create dynamic infrastructures from virtual and physical servers in datacenters and Cloud computing environments is announced today by Fujitsu Limited.

ServerView Resource Coordinator VE harnesses all physical and virtual resources within complex IT server topologies – including Cloud computing environments – providing simplified, unified management and ensuring that resources are dynamically optimized to deliver best performance at all times.

As server virtualization has gone mainstream, so it has added a new dimension to datacenter management, as arrays of virtual machines are hosted by individual physical servers, all of which must be managed.

This create new management consideration for IT administrators, including patch management, routine maintenance and break-fix. Furthermore, effective server farm management demands that that optimal system resources are automatically allocated at all times.

Resource Coordinator VE (RCVE) offers simplified, uniform, automated management of diverse, heterogeneous pools of virtual and physical servers, and providing intuitive server lifecycle management from a graphics-based management console. In addition to PRIMERGY blade servers, RCVE supports PRIMERGY rack and tower servers as well as x86 servers from other vendors. It also integrates with the vSphere™ 4 platform as well as the VMware Microsoft Hyper-V and Xen hypervisors.

By securing entire arrays of productive systems with one or a few standby units, RCVE provides cost-effective high availability for entire server pools. As a result, organizations can enjoy large savings in hardware costs as well as greater system utilization without increasing downtime by offering this "N plus 1" option instead of shadowing every single productive server with a hot spare.

Through simplifying and automating lifecycle operations, RCVE can reduce the time for deploying or exchanging servers by up to 90 percent. Its intuitive, graphical-based management console dramatically simplifies day-to-day datacenter operations even in mixed physical and virtual server environments.

Mike Neil, General Manager of Virtualization, Microsoft, said: "We are very pleased that Fujitsu's ServerView Resource Coordinator VE product will manage Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V to help deliver more customer value in virtualized environments."

"Fujitsu is a valued partner and we are pleased that Resource Coordinator VE integrates tightly with the VMware vCenter management suite within the new VMware vSphere™ 4, the industry's first operating system for building the internal cloud," said Dan Chu, vice president of emerging products and solutions, VMware. "This integration helps extend the value of VMware vSphere™ 4 and the VMware vCloud Initiative by providing our joint customers who have a combination of virtual and physical infrastructures with simplified manageability and a non-disruptive path to cloud computing. This pragmatic approach can help decrease IT costs significantly while improving the performance and availability of cloud-based applications."

Akira Yamanaka, Corporate Vice President and President of Software Business Group, Fujitsu Limited said: "The management and allocation of server resources has become intrinsically more complex thanks to virtualization and the trend towards Cloud computing. With Resource Coordinator VE, Fujitsu is delivering a powerful new tool that enables dramatic simplification, streamlining and cost savings within the datacenter, through the effective, consolidated management of holistic server resources."

Available to order immediately, RCVE is a core component of the Dynamic Cube – the new-generation PRIMERGY BX900 blade server system, also announced today (May 12).

The PRIMERGY BX900 is a complete dynamic server infrastructure in a single blade cube, and is built on four guiding principles: designed to save customers' money by reducing energy bills, to reach new levels of performance, to deliver unmatched uptime, and to guarantee investment protection.
