Fujitsu Receives Contract for Major Submarine Cable System from India's Reliance Communications

Submarine cable system will contribute to creation of world's largest IP network

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, September 12, 2007

Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has received a turnkey contract from FLAG Telecom, a subsidiary of India's largest telecommunications service provider, Reliance Communications, for the construction of system segments across the Mediterranean (between France and Egypt) and Asia (between India and Hong Kong), which are part of the FLAG Next-Generation Network (NGN) submarine cable system linking countries around the world.(1)

These two system segments will cover a distance of about 10,000 kilometers. Moreover, FLAG has also awarded Fujitsu a letter of intent for two additional system segments in the Pacific (between Japan and US West Coast) and East Africa (between India and Kenya) regions.

The fiber optic submarine cable systems are the backbone of the global next-generation network FLAG is constructing, which is designed to meet rising worldwide demand for bandwidth as a result of the increasing transmission volume of video and other multimedia services. When all system segments are completed, FLAG's global network will span 115,000 kilometers, nearly double its current length, and will become the world's largest IP network with submarine cable systems.

Fujitsu was selected for the contract based on its track record of constructing networks with FLAG using cutting-edge photonic technology, its wealth of experience over the past 40 years as a turnkey system supplier, with over 2,000 repeaters supplied, and its reputation for high reliability stemming from its zero-malfunction rate over the past 37 years.

Fujitsu is committed to actively contributing to the expansion and construction of global next-generation networks and meeting customer needs, thereby building a solid position as an infrastructure supplier in the field of advanced broadband communications.
