This breakthrough technology reduces GaN HEMT production costs to less than one-third that of conventional levels, thereby contributing to the realization of lower-cost GaN HEMT-based amplifiers.

  • Fujitsu Reports FY 2004 First-Half Financial Results Tokyo, Global, October 28, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 2,220.0 billion yen (approximately US$20,182 million*) for the first half of fiscal 2004 (April 1 - September 30, 2004), an increase of 3.6% over the same period last year. Double-digit sales increases in system chips, 3G mobile phone base stations, and hard disk drives were offset by lower than expected sales of mobile phone handsets and solutions and systems integration services. Excluding the impact of restructuring last fiscal year, on a continuing operations basis Fujitsu's first-half net sales increased by 8.1%.

  • Alcatel and Fujitsu Bring 'Beyond 3G' Solution to Europe Paris and Tokyo, Global, October 21, 2004 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) and Fujitsu Limited today announced the joint launch and operation of a live HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) demonstration system in France. The companies plan to introduce Linux solutions optimizing market-leading storage management and backup products from VERITAS together with Fujitsu's world-class storage, server and middleware offerings. This will include the large-scale mission-critical Intel Architecture (IA) servers with 64-bit Linux that Fujitsu is readying for market introduction. Additionally, the companies plan to strengthen existing cooperation in sales, marketing and support activities, and Fujitsu plans to set up a competency center for testing and pre-verification of Fujitsu and VERITAS product combinations.   • Rikkyo Primary School Introduces Advanced Security System for Real-time Monitoring of Students' Arrival/Departure Tokyo, Global, September 27, 2004 - Rikkyo Primary School today introduced a new security system at its Tokyo campus that uses active RFID tags to accurately monitor the comings and goings of its students in real time. The system, which was developed and is being deployed by Fujitsu Limited, will also help guard against unauthorized entry to the school grounds.   • Fujitsu, University of Tokyo Develop World's First 10Gbps Quantum Dot Laser Featuring Breakthrough Temperature-Independent Output Tokyo, Global, September 10, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited and a research group at the University of Tokyo led by Professor Yasuhiko Arakawa, today announced the joint development of a quantum dot (*1) laser that succeeds in minimizing temperature-sensitive output fluctuations, which was not possible with semiconductor lasers in the past. The newly developed quantum dot laser achieves high-speed operation of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) across a temperature range of 20°C to 70°C without electrical current adjustments, and has minimal output fluctuations caused by changes in temperature. This breakthrough technology will pave the way for compact, low-cost, and low power-consumption optical transmitters targeting optical metro-access systems (*2) and high-speed optical LAN (*3) for which further development continues.

  • Toshiba, NEC Electronics, and Fujitsu Agree on "COSMORAM Rev.3" Common Specifications for PSRAM Tokyo, Global, September 06, 2004 - Toshiba Corporation, NEC Electronics Corporation, and Fujitsu Limited today announced that they have agreed on standard interface specifications for Pseudo Static Random Access Memory (PSRAM) (*1) with burst mode. Based on the specifications, known as COSMORAM (Common Specifications for Mobile RAM) Rev. 3, each of the three companies will independently begin production and sales of PSRAM devices, with products scheduled to be available from each company starting March 2005.

  • Fujitsu Develops World's First Technologies Enabling Formation and Multi-layering of High Dielectric Constant Ceramic Film on Resin Circuit Boards Tokyo, Global, August 06, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) of Japan, have jointly developed the world’s first technologies that enable the formation and multi-layering at room temperature of ceramic film with dielectric constant of 400, on resin circuit boards. The new technologies makes it possible to embed passive components such as condensers into printed circuit boards, such as FR4, thereby achieving miniaturization and cost reductions of circuit boards.

  • Fujitsu Reports FY 2004 First-Quarter Financial Results Tokyo, Global, July 29, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 1,008.1 billion yen (approximately US$9,249 million*) for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 (April 1, 2004 - June 30, 2004), an increase of 7.4% over the same period last year. Although first-quarter sales in the Software & Services segment rose only slightly year-on-year, sales of semiconductors, hard disk drives and plasma display panels increased significantly. Sales also rebounded sharply in servers, mobile and IP networks and other categories in Fujitsu's Platforms segment.

  • University of Tokyo and Fujitsu Succeed in World's First Single-photon Emission in Data Transmission Wavelengths for Quantum Encryption Tokyo, Global, July 15, 2004 - The University of Tokyo's Nanoelectronics Collaborative Research Center and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the joint development of technologies that generate and measure single-photons, succeeding in observing the world's first emission of single-photons in data transmission wavelengths. The newly developed technologies pave the way for accelerating speeds for quantum encryption data transmission, considered the ultimate method of encrypted transmission, to 400 times faster than the data transmission speeds of conventional quantum encryption that could only transfer data at a few hundred bits per second (bps). The technologies represent a major step forward towards the practical application of quantum encryption data transmission.

  • Fujitsu Develops World's First Technology That Embeds Data Invisibly in Print Images Tokyo , Global, June 30, 2004 - Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of the world's first technology that embeds 12-digit numerical data in printed color images in a way invisible to the human eye. This new technology makes it possible to embed data, such as ID codes to convert URLs or telephone numbers, into color images for magazines or advertisements without interfering with the printed design. Utilizing this technology with mobile phones or PDAs enables easy Internet access and phone calling. This technology was developed to provide more natural interfaces using mobile phones or PDAs, to customers offering new services such as linking printed images to the Internet.

  • Fujitsu Reports FY 2003 Financial Results Tokyo, Global, April 27, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 4.77 trillion yen (approximately US$45.0 billion*) for fiscal year 2003 (April 1, 2003 - March 31, 2004), an increase of 3.2% over the previous fiscal year. The higher sales, together with company-wide cost-cutting efforts, efficiency gains and significantly improved profitability in its Electronic Devices and Platforms business segments, contributed to a jump in consolidated operating income to 150.3 billion yen (US$1.4 billion), up 49.7% over the previous year.

  • Fujitsu Announces Revised Financial Results Forecast for Fiscal 2003 and Resumes Dividends Tokyo, Global, April 22, 2004 - Following a meeting of its Board of Directors today, Fujitsu Limited issued the following revised projections and guidance regarding its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004 (FY 2003). The company now forecasts FY 2003 consolidated net income of 50 billion yen, an increase over previous projections. Unconsolidated net income is now forecast at 17 billion yen, a decrease over previous estimates. Fujitsu also announced that a fiscal year-end dividend of 3 yen per share would be paid.

  • Fujitsu Initiates Legal Action Against Samsung SDI Tokyo, Global, April 07, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has asserted patent infringement claims against Samsung Japan Corporation in Tokyo District Court and Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. in U.S. Federal District Court in Los Angeles, California. Fujitsu seeks a court order against future importation and sales of infringing PDP products, and compensation for past infringement. In addition, the company is seeking administrative injunctive relief under a Japanese customs and tariffs law, which prohibits importation of products that infringe Japanese patents.

  • Fujitsu Awarded Contract for SEA-ME-WE 4 Submarine Optical Network Tokyo, Global, March 30, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited today announced that it has been selected by the Sea-Me-We 4 consortia, together with its co-contractor Alcatel, to construct a high-capacity fibre optic submarine cable network, as part of the Sea-Me-We 4 submarine optical network linking Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Western Europe.   • Fujitsu Reports FY 2003 Third-Quarter Financial Results Tokyo, Global, January 29, 2004 - Fujitsu Limited, a leader in customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today reported consolidated net sales of 1,068.2 billion yen (approximately US$9.9 billion*) for the third quarter of fiscal year 2003 (October 1 - December 31, 2003), a 5.0% increase over the third quarter of fiscal 2002. The company posted higher year-over-year third-quarter sales in each of its main business segments - Software & Services, Platforms, and Electronic Devices. In addition to strong sales of semiconductors and other electronic devices, sales of new server and storage system models contributed to the positive results. Higher sales and the effects of cost cutting initiatives combined to produce an operating profit of 10.1 billion yen (US$94.4 million) for the third quarter, with all three business segments posting an operating profit for the quarter.
