Regeneration and Collaboration Forest

The city of Miyako in Iwate Prefecture is situated on the eastern-most part of Honshu, the main Japanese island. Blessed with a rich natural setting, it has a lovely ria coastline and mountainous districts with a wealth of plant life.

The Great East Japan Earthquake, which struck on March 11, 2011, did tremendous damage to the coastal communities and bountiful seas off the Sanriku region.

“We want to get involved somehow in support for recovery!” Employees and their relatives who continued to harbor this desire came from all parts of Japan and launched the Regeneration and Collaboration Forest project in Miyako City in October 2013. The project members planted trees for the first three years, and have since entered the phase of maintenance, which will last until 2022.
