Developed as a standard telephone to replace the Type 4, this model was able to achieve levels of fundamental performance so high that it could not be surpassed by any other single-function telephone using analog lines, leading to it being called a "perfect telephone".
Fujitsu collaborated with the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation, the manufacturer of this telephone, contributing also to improvements in its capability for mass production together with reductions in cost.
