Fujitsu Services Oy’s upgraded Pocket Office mobile communication system will provide services in real-time for the members of the Finnish parliament. The new Pocket Office will mobilize the groupware for the members of the parliament, including email and calendar, among other things. The service will automatically push new emails and calendar events to mobile phone, without any user action.
The upgraded Pocket Office is deployed today, June 6th. There will at first be some 300 users. Two thirds of them are members of Pparliament and the rest consist of Parliament officials. Next autumn the number will be increased by 50, as members of Parliamentary groups and the State Audit Office will join in.
The new Pocket Office is built on Teamware Mobile solution. Pocket Office is activated upon turning on the phone and functions automatically in the background at all times.
"When we decided to upgrade the mobile phones of the Parliament members it brought along the pressure to enhance also mobile services to a more cost efficient and user friendly level. A pilot group of ten Parliament members have been testing the real-time services for some time now. They are very pleased with the new solution and definitely don’t want to go back to the old system", says Juha Suomalainen, Head of Parliament’s IT Office.
Fujitsu implements the entire systems as a service, taking responsibility for both the hardware and software required in providing the service. Fujitsu will also ensure service performance and availability and take care of the management and monitoring services.
The members of Parliament have had Fujitsu’s Pocket Office services in use for as long as two years. The new, real-time solution will make mobile communication even more easy and flexible to use.
