VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is a contract research organisation involved in many international assignments. With its 2,800 employees, VTT provides a wide range of technology and applied research services for its clients, private companies, institutions and the public sector.
The migration project will be implemented during the upcoming winter and spring. 50 of VTT's IT professionals will be transferred to Fujitsu.
Through IT infrastructure outsourcing VTT aims primarily at efficient development of IT management services and having good and information secure remote work facilities.
"Reliable IT infrastructure, solid information security, time and place independent working facilities, and extended helpdesk hours together constitute a comprehensive service package. It would be quite a task to manage on our own. Our personnel rely on networking and many of them work at our customer organisations. Therefore they need secure access to VTT's internal networks and applications", says IT Director Markku Heikura of VTT.
"The Provia operating model is closest to what we were looking for. Of the offered solutions it stands out in that it best takes our particular needs into consideration and has the lowest costs. In addition to good references and personnel transfer processes we prioritised regional operation. We expected the service provider to have offices in towns central to our operation, in the greater Helsinki area, Oulu, Tampere, and Jyväskylä", Heikura says.
Consisting primarily of VTT's researchers, the user group of 2,800 as well as the user environment are extremely demanding to manage. Fujitsu does, however, firmly believe that the Provia operating model will be successfully adapted to the challenging technology of VTT.
"VTT is our most important customer in the government sector. The contract proves Provia's adaptability to such a challenging and previously unexplored territory. VTT uses hundreds of applications and approximately 60 different research networks", says Director Heikki Länsisyrjä of Fujitsu.
