Several Stora Enso units located in Finland have chosen Fujitsu as the provider of IT support services for the next four years.
Stora Enso has previously outsourced IT infrastructure maintenance and development services to Fujitsu at its plants in Kemijärvi, Oulu, Pankakoski, Uimaharju, Varkaus and Veitsiluoto. Fujitsu service has also covered Kymenlaakso plants as well as the head office in Helsinki and the Imatra Havurinne office.
The new agreement is an extension to the previous collaboration between Fujitsu and the above-mentioned Stora Enso units, initially covering some 4,000 workstations. Along with the new agreement Fujitsu’s Provia service will provide centralised and integrated management of the IT infrastructure of Stora Enso’s units at 11 locations.
The four-year agreement includes workstation- and customer support services; server- and LAN-related management and monitoring services; application support and specialist services, as well as skills development services.
"Concentrating all IT support services and their development to one supplier is part of a wider plan to carry out an overall standardisation of our IT services and information management functions. By streamlining IT processes we seek efficiency and cost-savings. Our experiences with Fujitsu’s service team are very positive; the distributed network is available to units around the country – wherever they are needed", says IT Manager Rauno Riekki of Stora Enso’s plant in Oulu.

Many a company is, however, aware of this flaw, and taking measures to improve their IT functions. With inadequate staff IT skills, state-of-the-art technology is far from supporting any organisation’s operations, and IT investments go right down the drain", Director Heikki Koskinen of Fujitsu points out.
"One of the major benefits provided by our Provia operating model has for years been the development of end-user IT skills. Based on our experience, with appropriate user training it’s possible to reduce the wasted time by 75 per cent", Koskinen sums up.
