Finnvera and Fujitsu Finland sign contract on server availability services

This marks as the first major IT outsourcing for Finnvera.

Helsinki, tammikuu 03, 2013

Fujitsu Finland Oy and Finnvera have signed a contract on server availability services whereby Fujitsu assumes full responsibility for Finnvera server services. Finnvera is a specialised financing company owned by the state of Finland.

This marks as the first major IT outsourcing for Finnvera. Previously they ran their own servers from their data centre in Kuopio. Along with this contract the servers were transferred to Fujitsu data centre, and some of the server capacity Finnvera need is now acquired as a service.

Finnvera’s decision to go ahead with the outsourcing was accelerated by the fact that the company will soon move to new premises in Kuopio.

”Our move is set to take place in February and we had to decide whether to build a new data centre of our own or buy data centre services from outside. We decided against investing in a fully equipped data centre and the special structures it requires, such as air-conditioning, fire extinguishing systems and current feed,” says IT Manager Raimo Hämäläinen of Finnvera.

”In this situation it was necessary to also sort out how we could best benefit from our own IT people, as there’s more work than we can handle by ourselves. We came to the conclusion that the data centre service is a function that an external service vendor is capable of providing in an efficient manner, with the same or even better service level.”

The contract was signed after a public bidding process, in compliance with the public procurement act.

”Fujitsu best fulfilled our strict cost and quality requirements, and won the bidding process. What also differentiated Fujitsu’s bid from the others was how well it considered the special legislature that governs the operation of a financing company. For example, the requirements on information security are extremely strict,” Hämäläinen points out.
