The aim of La Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Zaragoza, Aragón y Rioja, whose business name is Ibercaja, is to promote, safeguard and administer savings in order to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the action areas which have generated them.

Ibercaja boasts 939 branches, 4,100 employees and 2,250,000 customers (figures corresponding to December 2004).

The new Ibercaja Strategic Plan for the 2005-2007 period provides for the opening of 150 new branches throughout the whole of Spain in order to increase activity volume by 65% via the recruitment of 500,000 new customers and the creation of 500 new jobs. The aim of the above is to develop the vocation for leadership and service which has always characterized Ibercaja, a leadership based on the closeness, professionalism, innovation and quality of its services and products, and on maintaining the stability and solvency it has always shown.

The Challenge

In order to fulfill the aforementioned objectives, implementing systems which not only facilitate the recruitment and retention of new customers but also improve the management of current ones is pivotal. One important piece in this strategy is the putting into operation of a Campaign Management System which is easy to use, with top performance and high availability, uses open standards and does not impact current systems which are operating in Mainframe and other servers, and all of the above with as low an investment as possible.

The Solution

Following an in-depth study of the IT financial market, Ibercaja chose the Arvato Campaign application from Arvato Services as its Campaign Management package and Interstage Application Server from Fujitsu as its applications server.

Via this solution, by way of example, the following processes can be defined and automated:

  • Planning of campaigns and their tasks through the Campaign Workshop.
  • Design, management, launch and assessment of each campaign.
  • Checking of task completion.
  • Automation of the planning, execution and rolling out of each marketing action through diverse channels:
  • Mailing
  • Internet
  • E-mail
  • ATMs
  • SMS
  • Others
  • Monitoring and assessment of responses, ROI and degree of objective fulfillment.

In addition, by defining the different workflows, diverse customer-related processes can be carried out.

The Million Handshake middleware manages the information flow of the different tasks involved in each campaign allowing the generation and mailing of personalized messages through diverse channels, both for the campaign users as well as for the participants if desired. Arvato Campaign automates these process and gives Ibercaja users the chance to monitor the progress of the campaign.

Fujitsu's Interstage Application Server was chosen by Ibercaja as the product which was most suited to this project. Interstage Application Server supports international and de facto standards such as J2EE, XML, SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, ebXML, SSL3, CORBA, etc. and open source codes such as Apache, Tomcat, Struts, etc.

In addition to standard technologies, Interstage Application Server includes advanced technologies to track and ensure the execution of applications such as Arvato Campaign, so that it monitors and recovers the function as soon as possible whenever a problem occurs. This technology is based on that developed for Mainframe platforms. Ibercaja has been familiar with the high availability of the OLTP of the Fujitsu Mainframe throughout the 20 years it has been in use.

For many years, Fujitsu has supplied Ibercaja with its IT products and services, especially within the Mainframe area. For over 20 years, excellent performances and product availability and professional services have contributed to Ibercaja's high trust level as regards Fujitsu's proposals and solutions.
