MB86292 'Orchid'

1st Generation Navigation Class Graphics Controller

Fujitsu's MB86292 'Orchid' graphics controller is a first generation, navigation class device and an enhanced continuation of the 'Cremson' family. Compared with previous devices it has support for external memory and support for four overlay display layers. With advanced alpha-blending and various 2D/3D graphics acceleration features, this graphics controller is the ideal continuation of the 'Cremson' and 'Scarlet' devices.

MB86292 'Orchid' is a derivative of the MB86291 'Scarlet' device and can connect up to 32MB of external video memory for those applications, for which the embedded 2MB of SDRAM of MB86291 'Scarlet' is not sufficient. All Scarlet's features including video input, scaler and a geometry processor are also available with MB86292 'Orchid'. The concept of display layers, 2D/3D rendering functions and the display controller features are inherited from MB86290A 'Cremson' and MB86291A 'Scarlet'. Orchid is optimized for applications in car navigation systems, which require video input features, consumer information processing systems and arcade game applications.

The external memory interface can be connected to Fujitsu FCRAM or SDRAM type memory devices. The external video input can be used to capture video signals according to the standard RBT-ITU656 YUV4:2:2 formats. Picture-in-picture functions are supported to display the video image (the W layer is dedicated for that purpose). A flexible video scaler is integrated to adjust the dimensions of the video input format. A geometry processor which is capable of performing numeric calculations for graphics operations is also integrated. Supported functions include Affine conversions, model-view-projections, 3D-clipping operations and others. MB86292 'Orchid' has only RGB digital outputs for display connections. All drawing functions, display list-formats and software functions are compatible to the MB86290A 'Cremson' and MB86291A 'Scarlet' devices.
