Introduction to Graphics Controllers

FME’s existing family of graphics controllers provides optimised solutions for embedded graphic environments including car navigation, head-up displays, console displays, virtual dashboards and mobile information terminals. In addition to offering the world’s fastest embedded rendering capability, Fujitsu graphics controllers integrate a flexible layer concept, a wide range of 2D and 3D rendering functions, and provide support for screen resolutions of up to SVGA standard (1280 x 1024).
The latest addition to this product portfolio is FME’s 3rd generation graphics controller, the MB86297A, is the first to be manufactured in Fujitsu’s own 90nm technology for embedded automotive applications. The MB86297A is able to render 10Mpolygons/sec with only 2W power consumption and uses DDR memory technology. Complemented by Fujitsu’s API the device is fully Open-GL ES compatible and offers special features such as resolution-independent dual display output, programmable geometry & rendering engines, eight layer support per display channel and dual video input.
Business Unit Graphics Solutions
Establishment of a new Business Unit gives Fujitsu a highly focussed strategy, both on product development and support, enabling us to extend our lead in the graphics controller market. As the team develops new graphics controllers to supplement FME Graphics Solutions’ already-extensive roadmap, this will ensure an FME graphics controller for every target application, which will help customers to develop their products in the shortest time possible. The excellent scalability and binary compatibility means that our products are interchangeable, allowing customers to move to higher- or lower-end devices without the hassle of major software changes.
