Fujitsu's advanced mixed signal capacity is demonstrated in a new range of high performance data converters ideally suited to communication infrastructure applications. Through the unique combination of leading edge CMOS technology and novel patented architectures high speed, high resolution converters are achieved without compromise to critical systems issues such as power consumption.
The range of converters enables new systems architectures, which are currently not practical, to be adopted. Beginning with virtually standard 12 bit resolution, 14 and 16 bit devices will meet the requirements of next generation communication systems where systems specifications are often written around the limit of available technology.
High performance analog to digital conversion provides the ultimate solution to digitisation in the receive chain. By moving the converter up the signal chain, direct IF digitisation enables a complete multi-channel band to be sampled for subsequent separation and processing digitally. High performance digital to analog conversion enables a similar specification to the transmit path by direct IF synthesis, again using digital signal processing to create a complete communication band.
Both techniques place significant demands on data converter performance, but the resultant system flexibility and simplification is significant. By maximising the use of digital signal processing the system becomes adaptable and programmable, leading to the 'Software Radio' principle where multi-standard communication can be handled simultaneously.
