The PalmSecure sensor can differentiate between 'live' and 'dead' hands, the method used to do this is Fujitsu Confidential.
Largest benefits will be gained by applications using Single Sign-On software with ID and password especiall where hygienic operation is required (e.g. Healthcare).
PalmSecure Mouse works with Version 24 library, which offers faster authentication, guideless authentication and algorithmic enhancement for ambient light.
The template created by PalmSecure is a maximum size of 3 KB.
PalmSecure can operate under a number of operating systems with the most common applications running under Linux and Windows.

The PalmSecure sensor has an FAR of 0.00008% when the FRR is 0.01%.
Vascular patterns are unique to each individual - even identical twins have different patterns.
Once registered there is no need to re-register unless the registered hand suffers significant trauma such as severe burns or deep laceration.
PalmSecure captures the unique palm vein image via near-infrared radiation. The deoxygenated haemoglobin in the palm absorbs these rays causing the veins to appear as a black pattern. This vein pattern is then verified against vein patterns stored in a database to authenticate the individual.
The PalmSecure sensor uses an internal biometric and is contactless therefore extremely difficult to forge. Palm vein patterns exist only inside the body and unlike other Biometrics cannot be copied or duplicated by use of photography, voice recording or fingerprints.
The PalmSecure sensors uses reflection technology to capture the vein pattern and not transmission of light. The reflection method is less affected by temperature than transmission and the veins can easily be seen when the hand temperature is reduced.
Fujitsu recommend that the PalmSecure sensor is used in internal environments only and not exposed to extremes of temperature, water or direct sunlight.
Research indicates that the vein pattern does not change with age. It is not necessary to re-register on regular basis.
No, each hand vein pattern is unique and needs to be registered independently.
Palm vein patterns are the most complex compared to areas of the body used by other vein technologies. The palm of the hand has no hair growth and no significant variation in skin colour which make it easier to photograph the vascular pattern.
PalmSecure can be used in most areas where a biometric security solution is required, ATM, Access control system access as well as personnel identification. See our PalmSecure applications page for more information.
Fujitsu captured 140,000 palm vein samples and used this data set to measure the FAR and FRR rates based on the INSTAC recommended measurement method.
PalmSecure is a highly secure biometric. PalmSecure uses an internal physiological characteristic which is highly robust and extremely difficult to forge and steal.
PalmSecure False Reject Rate is 0.01%.
FRR is the False Reject Rate and is defined as :
FRR(n) = Number of rejected verification attempts for a qualified person (or feature) n / Number of all verification attempts for a qualified person (or feature) n
PalmSecure False Acceptance Rate is 0.00008%.
FAR is the False Acceptance Rate and is defined as the probability that an unauthorised user is accepted as an authorised user.
FAR(n) = Number of successful fraud attempts against a person (or feature) n / Number of all fraud attempts against a person (or feature) n
