Fujitsu Networking Platform Wins InfoVision Award at Broadband World Forum Europe 2009

Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 9500 Packet ONP Singled out by IEC for Innovation in Metro Network Technologies and Services .

Paris, 8th September 2009 — Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology and communications solutions, announced today that the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has selected the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP) as the winner of an InfoVision award, in the Metro Network Technologies and Services category. The winners were announced during Broadband World Forum Europe 2009, taking place this week in Paris. The InfoVision Awards programme recognises the technologies, applications, products, advances and services judged as the most unique and beneficial to the information and communications technologies (ICT) industry.

Andy Stevenson, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited, commented: “The Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP creates a manageable and scalable network foundation for delivering high bandwidth, high quality services, such as on-demand high definition television, multimedia Internet experiences and interactive enterprise collaboration. By integrating the three fundamental optical networking technologies of Connection-oriented Ethernet, ROADM and SDH/SONET into a single addressable optical networking class element, the FLASHWAVE 9500 platform dramatically lowers the cost of deploying and operating a packet-centric network. We are delighted to be recognised by the IEC with an InfoVision Award for the contributions we are making in ICT metro networking.”

FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP provides the modular integration of Connection-oriented Ethernet (COE) with Layer 2 aggregation and traffic management, ROADM, and SDH/SONET transport technologies into a single addressable optical networking class element. The platform’s pluggable ROADM option and patent-pending universal switch fabric allow both Ethernet and SDH/SONET traffic to be transported in its native packet or TDM format to create a universal optical infrastructure. Integrated COE technology delivers the scalability and flexibility of Ethernet with the QoS performance and security of SDH/SONET-based solutions.

“The IEC’s InfoVision Awards honour innovations that help advance the industry and deliver the promise of broadband,” commented IEC President John Janowiak. “We’re pleased to recognise Fujitsu as an InfoVision Awards Winner and we look forward to the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP demonstration on this year’s Broadband World Forum Europe exhibition floor!”

The winners were selected by a panel of judges chosen from the Broadband World Forum Europe 2009 programme committee, consisting of industry experts from vendor companies, service providers and industry associations. The “Metro Network Technologies and Services” category addresses innovations associated with technologies and services utilised in a metropolitan area usually associated with delivering services to enterprises or high-density service areas.

Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited will be displaying the FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP at Broadband World Forum Europe 2009 at Stand #563.
