Fujitsu Telecommunications Ireland Launches Out of Warranty Laptop Repair Service

Birmingham, 28th August 2007 — Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd announces that its Antrim-based specialist re-manufacturing and repair division, Fujitsu Telecommunications Ireland, has launched a new UK-wide service to provide out-of-warranty support for laptop computers. Introduced initially for owners of Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ notebooks and tablet machines, the Out of Warranty Repair Service is available to private individuals, as well as businesses with hundreds of units. Fujitsu’s comprehensive new service can handle a wide range of repairs, from the correction of minor faults to complete as-new rebuilds that rectify major cosmetic or mechanical damage.
Fujitsu’s Out of Warranty Repair Service is designed to make life as easy as possible for the customer, including the delivery of purpose-designed protective packaging, in the event that the customer has lost or discarded the original container. Faulty machines can be collected from anywhere in the UK for a fixed-price repair-validation fee, which is deductible from the cost of any repair. The machines are shipped to the company’s award-winning facility at Antrim, where the fault is checked and validated, and the customer informed of the repair costs and likely turnaround time.
Peter Bowman is Director of Fujitsu Telecommunications Ireland, which is entirely dedicated to the repair, refurbishment and
lifecycle extension of electronic equipment. He commented on the new service:
“We are already an approved service centre for Fujitsu Siemens Computers, and this new service extends our current operation,
which involves providing in-warranty and out of warranty repairs to FSC laptop customers in Ireland. We have a trained and
experienced team that is dedicated to repairing these machines, so they know the ins and outs of the brand and its various
models. It’s the nature of laptops that customers need them back in a hurry, and a key part of our new service is focused
on customer responsiveness – we strive to keep them informed and return the repaired machine promptly, inside the quoted timeframe.
The service is an excellent fit with our overall strategy on repair and refurbishment, and on quality of service, and we have
the capacity to handle repairs on a batch basis for large customers.”
The Out of Warranty Repair Service ranges from a straightforward board replacement or component swap, such as a disc drive or LCD screen, to the complete refurbishment of machines with cosmetic or mechanical damage. Machines can be returned to the customer looking and working, to all intents and purposes, like a new product. Even if the damage is serious, Fujitsu can still demonstrate significant savings – perhaps as much as 50% – compared with the replacement cost of a new machine. Multiplied across a large batch of machines for corporate customers, this saving represents a significant factor that successfully resolves a customer’s replace-or-refurbish dilemma. With the introduction of the WEEE initiative, Fujitsu is playing a valuable role in helping companies to limit the amount of equipment that requires processing as waste, by extending product lifecycles and ensuring that valuable inventories can be kept operational for as long as possible.
Fujitsu Telecommunications Ireland’s Out of Warranty laptop repair service also includes regular maintenance programmes, as well as virus removal, cleaning and machine health checks. The company undertakes hardware upgrades as part of its service, along with the sales of peripherals such as batteries, cables and power adapters.
