Fujitsu achieves BS7799 security standard certification

Fujitsu Services, one of Europe's leading providers of managed servicesfor IT infrastructure, announced today its data centre, networks and internet managed services business has achieved the internationally-recognised BS7799 certification security standard in these specialist areas.

London, 18th July 2002 — BS7799 and its international equivalent ISO 17799 are the most widely recognised security standards in the world. Essentially a best practice guide to all aspects of IT and information security management, the standard provides organisations with a route to defining security policies to help businesses minimise the risk of security breaches and ensure that security policies continue to fulfil corporate, customer and legal requirements.

Fujitsu supports over 500 hosted internet domains for some of the UK's leading companies, including Thomas Cook, bbc.co.uk, the DTI and Marks & Spencer. It is also a major UK ISP and manages approximately 30 per cent of UK home internet users via its partnership with Affinity Internet Holdings plc.

By gaining BS7799 certification, Fujitsu customers can now benefit from an internet managed services provider that is able to provide:

  • A formal risk assessment to understand the potential risks to a business, the value of data, software and hardware assets and therefore the cost implications of poor security practices.
  • A balanced approach to technical, process and contractual priorities and obligations such as firewalls, password management and provision of business continuity.
  • The opportunity to develop an understanding and awareness of good security practices.
  • A structured approach to business continuity and information security management.

Gregg Wilkinson, information security manager for internet managed services at Fujitsu Services said: "We have reached the point where customers expect their suppliers to not only claim compliance to standards, but also to demonstrate compliance by formal certification with an independent authority. We have always believed in providing internet managed services to the very highest standard. BS7799 certification proves our capability in this area and helps to gain trust and respect from our customers. It also helps us to drive the industry forward towards even higher levels of service and security."
