Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe
Fujitsu recognized as one of Germany’s 100 best SME employers
Ex Economics Minister Clement honors the electronics specialist Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe for its outstanding HR management with the renowned „Top Job“accolade
Duisburg und Langen, 30. January 2009 — Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) has received „Top Job“status and now belongs to the top 100 employers among Germany’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Wolfgang Clement, Germany’s former minister of economics, today recognized an HR management which reflects the company strategy of the Langen-based Japanese semiconductor firm at a ceremony in Duisburg-Nord Industrial Landscape Park.
The initiative TOP JOB
Every year, the University of St. Gallen carries out a survey among SME employers who perform excellent HR work. For 2008, 212 companies with over 24.000 employees were among the participants. The following six areas were examined: Leadership & Vision, Family Awareness & Demography, Motivation & Dynamism, Employee Development & Prospects, Culture & Communication and Internal Entrepreneurship.
TOP JOB employers must demonstrate tailored HR strategies and a strong sense of responsibility towards their employees. They encourage professional and personal development among their employees. In a two-stage process the study analyses the management instruments used in the human resources environment and compares their efficiency with the help of an employee survey.
The Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen, led by Prof. Dr. Heike Bruch, is living proof of the assumption that that TOP JOB employers are more successful commercially.
The arguments for FME
In the result analysis, FME is certified for its elaborate Human Capital management approach as an integral part of its corporate business strategy. FME motivates its workforce with multicultural teams, joint events and inter-departmental projects. Performance recognition is capitalized at FME. In particular the „Top Job“analysis valued an online program designed for employees to thank other members of a successful project. A copy of an email is sent to the line manager who can then, at his or her discretion, reward the commended colleague financially for his/her efforts.
A favored method to develop talent is to encourage international and inter-disciplinary project teams. Thus, the company management asked talented professionals to create the staff magazine „INSIGHTS – facts & fun“. Alternating editorial teams from different divisions identify topics which are of interest for the staff – thereby enhancing their own network and helping improve company-wide communication.
Communication is vitally important to FME. Apart from communication meetings, regular „Management Talks“ are held, at which the Senior Management Team is available for a Question and Answer session. Furthermore, employee opinion surveys identify not only weak points, but also colleagues who embrace those issues. Workshops then link experiences in the different departments with constructive solutions.
An open and cordial company culture thrives at FME. „We practice a culture of give & take in a multicultural environment with employees from 28 nations“, said Axel Tripkewitz, FME’s Sr. Director HR. „In order to act as an innovation driver in the semiconductor business, we demand strong commitment, for which we also thank our people.“ The management team holds barbecue parties in the summer, Christmas is celebrated jointly and team events are organized in the individual groups.
„We are proud to be classified as one of the 100 best employers among Germany’s SMEs.“
