Fujitsu awarded Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status by the Darmstadt Customs Authority

PR927 Award AEO

Langen, Germany, 11th December 2008 —  Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) and its logistics partner Rollkontor of Wiesbaden have been awarded the prestigious Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status by the Customs Authority Darmstadt (Hauptzollamt Darmstadt). The certificate was presented at a ceremony held on November 20th at FME's European Headquarters in Langen, near Frankfurt, Germany.

AEO Certification is granted in one of three categories: Simplification by Customs Law (AEO C), Security and Safety (AEO S), or Simplification by Customs Law / Security and Safety (AEO F). Both FME and Rollkontor received the highest category, AEO F.

AEO Status dramatically speeds up the flow of goods and materials through customs, an important consideration for companies operating internationally. For this reason it has started to play a key role in the selection of suppliers among members of the automotive industry, OEM customers and foreign trade authorities. AEO accredited companies are entitled to privileges with regard to security and safety-related customs inspections, and simplification of otherwise complex customs regulations.

AEO Status offers shippers advantages that include privileged and expedited customs clearance, control and confirmation of certificates of origin and community status, and the shortening of advance notification terms.

In order to apply for AEO Status, companies need to demonstrate testable customs and financial accounting as well as proven financial security. Furthermore, participating companies must have transparent organisation of their customs processes and appropriate security procedures against unauthorised access to goods or data.

The overall aim of the AEO programme is to provide security to the international supply chain starting from the manufacturer of goods and finishing with delivery to the end-user.

Based on a stringent audit conducted at FME by the Customs Authority Darmstadt on November 5th 2008, Fujitsu now enjoys AEO Status, which is valid throughout the EU. It is also acknowledged in Japan and the USA.

FME and Rollkontor have built a positive working relationship since they began working together in 1991. Now that both companies have achieved AEO Status at the same time, they have set aggressive joint goals to further strengthen their performance on common logistics issues in the international marketplace.
