Fujitsu Introduces Fingerprint Module Stack - An "All-in-one" Embedded System Solution

London, November 18th, 2003 — Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) today announced an all-in-one embedded fingerprint system solution MDFP200. This new module stack allows customers to shorten their development cycles and achieve faster time-to-market. Target applications are access control & management systems and various personal identification systems.

As a stand-alone fingerprint authentication system, the MDFP200 integrates fingerprint capturing, processing, verification and storage into one system. Once the power supply is connected, the system is ready to operate. The MDFP200 can either be used as a reference design with complete BOM (Bill of Material) for evaluation purposes or be simply incorporated into end products. This enables customers to save development costs and time.

The module stack consists of a fingerprint capture module and a processing module. It uses Fujitsu's CMOS solid-state single touch Fingerprint sensor (MBF200) with 500dpi resolution and 256x300 pixel array. The static capacity based sensor ensures stable operation since its operation is not dependent on lighting or temperature conditions. The Fujitsu 32bit RISC processor with its 68MHz internal maximum operating frequency provides an efficient and low power CPU for the algorithm. By using key components from Fujitsu's own product line-up, Fujitsu offers a complete hardware system solution, backed with support for customers' during their design-in phase.

Fujitsu's software partner IKENDI completes the module with its minutia-based fingerprint matching algorithm. Requiring low process power and only around 200 Bytes storage space for each template, the IKENDI algorithm enables the fingerprint module to achieve matching time of just 1 second.

The increasing deployment of security devices in the public sector, particularly subsequent to September 11th, as well as the establishment of a biometrics infrastructure for e-commerce, means that the biometrics industry is experiencing healthy growth. With MDFP200 FME believes it can serve market segments such as physical access control and public identification amongst others.
