Fujitsu's FR Microcontroller series finds support from SEGGER
Frankfurt, 27th March 2003 — Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe today announced a partnership with SEGGER Microcontroller Systeme GmbH, one of the leading embedded software manufacturers, with the release of embOS (RTOS) to support Fujitsu's FR and 16LX series microcontrollers and Softune environment. This new agreement is set to bring additional benefits to customers operating in the embedded market.
Fujitsu's FR Series is an embedded 32-bit RISC controller, which incorporates five-stage pipelining and Harvard-bus architecture and offers single instruction cycle execution. It was developed to resolve the demands for both high performance and low cost particularly in high-end automotive, consumer and industrial applications.
Utilising Segger's embOS operating system, Fujitsu can now satisfy requirements for a system optimised for embedded applications, offering the benefit of local European support from either company and services such as special software drivers for Flash programming support tools.
embOS, a small real-time kernel, supports all standard 8/16/32-bit CPUs and has become one of the most widely accepted kernels in the market. It provides all CPUs with the benefits of a fully featured multitasking system and 100% identical APIs. Features such as low memory footprint, fast context switches, low interrupt latency and support for embOSView are included. Its small memory footprint also makes it suitable for single-chip applications.
"Our intention is to offer Fujitsu's FR customers a pre-emptive multitasking system for hard, real time applications. embOS, our real time operating system for embedded applications, supports all Fujitsu CPUs with an FR30 or FR50 core."
"It has been developed for and with Fujitsu's Softune compiler Fcc911s and supports all memory models offered by this compiler. It also comes with an easy to use start project for the Softune workbench. All embOS features such as the entire palette of communication mechanisms, tasks and communication instances can be dynamically created, deleted and configured," said Rolf Segger, President and CEO at SEGGER.
"We have enjoyed a long relationship with Segger, from the implementation of the OS for our 16LX microcontrollers, and have every confidence in this partnership for the FR series, " commented Mathias Braeuer, Marketing Manager FR Microcontrollers at Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe. "With additional customer support by way of special software drivers for embedded applications, Segger is the ideal partner for customers who have need of more specialised solutions."
embOS is provided with a viewer that allows the end user to monitor and profile his system from a PC. An embOS FR trial version can be downloaded from the website http://www.segger.com and is available in object (2.480,00 Euro) or source code (4.980,00 Euro) form and comes as a single developer license. TCP/IP and other network stacks are available and customers also benefit from 6 months of technical support and free updates.
About SEGGER Microcontroller Systeme
SEGGER Microcontroller Systeme GmbH develops and distributes software development tools and ANSI "C" software components
(middleware) for embedded systems in several industries such as telecom, medical technology, consumer electronics, automotive
industry and industrial automation. Besides embOS, main products include emWin, a universal graphics software (GUI) for embedded
applications, and emFile.
emWin, written entirely in ANSI "C", can easily be used on any CPU, LCD and controller. It is complemented by PC tools
such as a Bitmap converter, Font converter, WindowsManager, Simulation and Viewer. emFile is a File system for embedded applications
and can be used on any media, for which basic hardware access functions are provided. Its high performance library has been
optimised for speed, versatility and memory footprint.
SEGGER's intention is to cut software development time for embedded applications by offering compact, flexible and easy-to-use
middleware allowing developers to concentrate on their applications.
