Fujitsu Focuses on Environmentally Conscious Solutions for Business Transformation at Fujitsu Technology Forum 2008

London, 3rd Jun 2008 — Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe Limited is unveiling a number of new technologies at its third annual Technology Forum in Europe, taking place in central London. The event combines a high level conference and technology showcase, opened by Dr Kazuo Murano, President of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd of Japan, and a gala dinner hosted by Richard Christou, Chairman and Chief Executive of Fujitsu EMEA PLC, for an invited audience of around 150 CEO, CTO and CIO-level business guests.

The event's theme reflects Fujitsu Laboratories' principal areas of research, across energy efficiency and green IT, business transformation, and security. Dr Murano expands on the European Technology Forum's message:

"In planning our research programmes, Fujitsu has traditionally always taken a holistic view of global needs and the economy as a whole. We recognise the imperative of reducing our demands on the earth's resources, while simultaneously improving existing products and creating new solutions that meet customer needs. Central to this process is ensuring that every business, irrespective of size or location, becomes an integral part of its customers' systems and processes. The ICT infrastructure is the essential enabler behind this, facilitating the supply and receipt of information on a real-time basis across widely differing IT platforms. At the Forum, we are showing nearly thirty different demonstrations that illustrate our activity towards realising this business/customer integration strategy. Some of these are being shown in Europe for the first time, while others are a progression of innovations for which Fujitsu is well-known. Above all, the emphasis is on how to apply these environmentally conscious solutions to achieve true business transformation."

For Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe (FLE), the principal objective behind staging the annual European Technology Forum is to provide a direct communication channel between its research facilities and the marketplace. Richard Christou, Chairman and Chief Executive of Fujitsu EMEA PLC explains:

"This Forum provides an important opportunity for Fujitsu’s researchers to demonstrate the capabilities and potential of emerging technologies. By initiating a dialogue with members of the business community, we can align our research activities to provide existing and potential customers with tailor-made solutions that offer genuine competitive advantage and business transformation. Fujitsu's R&D activity is already well-positioned within the European research community. This is our chance to draw that activity to the attention of a wider audience, showing how the research and business communities can work together to achieve greater commercial success, whilst at the same time addressing some of the more pressing global issues of sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The response this year has been exceptional, with a record attendance of around 150 guests drawn from major public and private sector organisations."

There are eight key demonstration strands at the European Technology Forum:

  • Eco Energy Efficiency in High Tech Environments
  • Optimisation of Systems & Business Processes
  • High Performance Computing
  • Secure Access
  • Secure Communications
  • Mobile Working
  • Secure Access Control
  • Wireless Broadband Solution

Making their first appearance in Europe are a number of Fujitsu innovations, including:

  • Real-time multi-point temperature measurement technology for energy-efficient data centre cooling. This reduces power consumption via real-time management of the air conditioning for a greener approach.
  • Fujitsu's latest UHF RFID tags, capable of storing personal identification information. When prompted, this data is passed securely to a receiving station. Deployment examples include monitoring patients in hospital, or keeping children safe through parental tracking.
  • A new security system based on multi-view image recognition to improve security in a variety of facilities such as data centres, working on the principle of catching attempts to tailgate authorised employees into secure areas.
  • Fujitsu's new High-Definition encoder designed to enable low cost, stable and high quality video transmission over the Internet, using inexpensive broadband public IP lines from station to station.
  • The latest technology to assist with effective speech-based communication, comprising Clear Voice noise detection and Slow Voice for improved comprehensibility via embedded software to slow the other person's voice to a more intelligible speed.
  • Fujitsu's complete WiMAX network provisioning system covering every major aspect of the WiMAX network. Fujitsu was recently awarded the prestigious System Design Award for its BroadOne? WX300 macrocell base station at the 2008 WiMAX World EMEA event.
