Intuitive scanning with Fujitsu's new ScanSnap S510
Easy handling: Fujitsu offers advanced scanning concept with its new ScanSnap S510
London, 19 July 2007 — Fujitsu Europe Limited is today introducing its latest time-saving scanning solution for the individual desktop environment: the ScanSnap S510. Fujitsu has further enhanced the scanning concept with ScanSnap S510 by simplifying the scanning process to an easy to use one button, menu driven approach. In a comprehensive post-scan menu, the user is now being provided with a set of choices to optimize the processing of the document as well as improving office efficiencies through instant store, display, e-mail and share options. Integrated OCR text recognition functions additionally aid the convenient processing of scanned documents such as to Microsoft® Office applications. In addition, ScanSnap S510 comes with a full version of Adobe® Acrobat® 8.0 Standard.
Fujitsu's latest ScanSnap generation continues to provide all the advantages of its predecessor: a compact design, fast scanning speeds of up to 18 pages per minute in duplex mode, the smooth scanning of business cards and documents of up to A3-size formats, the OCR function to generate searchable PDF files as well as automatic functions such as image and text enhancements, colour detection, paper size/auto- cropping, blank page detection, and de-skew image rotation.
Previously, post scan processing had to be determined prior to scanning. Thanks to the new ScanSnap S510 Quick Menu, post-processing now forms an integral part of the capture processes, which can also be stored to default profiles. This newly added feature simplifies each scan session significantly and is controlled by the Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager, offering numerous processing options with a simple mouse-click. The scan process starts with pressing the button on the ScanSnap device, which launches the Quick Menu, while simultaneously scanning the document.
Simple, intuitive handling
The Quick Menu surface is clearly structured, showing all available scanning options in a simple and quick format. In addition
to the scanned document and the selectable profiles in the ScanSnap Manager, the new provision offers a variety of user options.
Users can directly send scanned documents as e-mails, have them printed out or included in various Microsoft Office programmes
including Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2003.
The Quick Menu ties in all "scan-to" options in one simplified view for quick and easy navigation. Another advantage is the option to preview scanned documents before deciding to edit, store or e-mail them or to convert the documents into PDF files. Prior to making that decision, users can also amend file names, add password protection or select multiple-use options.
Simply load documents into the automatic document feeder (ADF), log into the system, type in the destination using the built-in keyboard, and press the scan icon on the large touch-screen display. The documents will be easily accessible and immediately available to the rest of the organization within seconds as the scanner distributes documents directly to a network folder, email, or fax machine. Moreover, the fi-6000NS creates secure, searchable PDF files allowing users to password protect their scanned documents to ensure files can only be opened by the intended recipients.
Unique user support
Fujitsu's new ScanSnap S510 offers users two unique methods for producing searchable PDF files. First, on an ad hoc document-by-document
basis and secondly, by using the ScanSnap Organizer which monitors indexes in the background and is able to initiate OCR processes
for newly scanned documents.
"The ScanSnap Organizer is a personal document filing system that supports multiple usage of a captured document. In addition to being able to preview the contents of a PDF document, users can activate the ‘print-to’ and ‘mail-to’ functions with a single mouse click. Equally simple is the conversion of PDF files to Word, Excel or PowerPoint 2003," declares Klaus Schulz, Manager, Product & Channel Marketing EMEA, explaining the additional features of Fujitsu´s new scanning concept. "The new ScanSnap S510 is also equipped with the latest software versions", Schulz continues. This includes the full version of Adobe ® Acrobat® 8.0 Standard, the OCR text recognition software ABBYY ® FineReader for ScanSnap 3.0 as well as the latest ScanSnap Organizer version, plus the business card programme CardMinder. Additionally the ScanSnap S510 is compatible with Microsoft ® Vista.
Price and Availability
The Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 is available from July in specialist stores for a recommended retail price of €479 plus VAT.
