Fujitsu raises intelligence of its production scanner fi-5900C
Extended operating features increase volume throughput and reduce user intervention
London, 11 July 2007 — Fujitsu Europe Limited has today announced an upgraded version of its immensely popular top-of-the-line production level fi-5900C document scanner which was first launched with great success in 2006. The fi-5900C has been upgraded with additional features to increase scan volume and to simplify operation including significant intelligent solutions such as the Intelligent Multi-Feed Function and Hybrid Cropping, which increases scan throughput and facilitates ease of use.
Intelligent Multi-Feed Function
Unwanted double feeds of documents attached to receipts, invoices, post-it notes or even photos are an everyday challenge
for scanners. Such errors are quickly identified by highly sensitive multi-feed detectors, which are automatically stopping
the scan process. Manual intervention is then required to detach these documents, resulting in inconvenience and loss of user
time. With the new Intelligent Multi-Feed Function from Fujitsu, the operator can also command the multi-feed controls to
ignore predetermined double feeds greatly increasing the scanner’s throughput and ease of operation.
In case of intended multi-feeds, this new Fujitsu feature offers users two possibilities: To either ignore multiple feeds in a single occurrence or for the day´s entire batch. The document profiles captured are examined automatically during every scan. These profiles capture position or the maximum length of the supplementary documents, and ensure that predefined settings do not interrupt the scan process. The user can therefore decide before the scan process whether to apply the new profile universally to scan many documents with a variety of attachments, or whether to apply it only temporarily.
Hybrid Cropping
In addition, the integrated CCD image sensors guarantee rapid image capture and brilliant image replication, even for oversized
or ‘skewed’ documents, ensuring no information loss at the documents' edges. The Hybrid Cropping function produces accurate
images for scanned A4 documents that are ‘skewed’ by up to 45 degrees, and orientates them according to their original
format without any loss of processing speed. The fi-5900C scans documents up to 317 mm wide and up to 863 mm long.
Klaus Schulz, Manager, Product & Channel Marketing EMEA, outlines the advantages: "The development of these new functions, and of the new operating concept make the integrated scanning processes much more efficient. It also increases the scanner’s daily capacity, but most importantly saves the user time and effort during their working day."
Additional Features
The fi-5900C upgrade is equipped with a Kofax VRS 4.1 professional hardware module, enabling the extended VRS functions
selectively usable over the USB 2.0 connection. This further reduces the need for manual intervention and gains extra
time for the operator. Fujitsu's new production scanner is also equipped with two selectively usable interfaces for connection
with ISIS/TWAIN controllers. Additionally available are two interfaces for the integrated VRS hardware module - one for the
UW-SCSI module and the other for the USB 2.0 connection.
Fujitsu's fi-5900C was first launched in 2006 and is one of the most powerful and technically advanced document scanners in its class. Offering a high scan throughput of up to 100,000 documents per day, problem-free scanning of diverse document batches all helps to minimise user intervention. Thanks to its three multi-zone ultrasound sensors, users can either monitor predefined document segments or simply ignore them. At the same time, the scanner's sensors increase the reliability of the double-feed control and with its upgraded functions; this latest fi-5900C generation offers even faster production times, higher efficiency and less user intervention.
Price and Availability
Fujitsu's upgraded fi-5900C is available immediately in specialist stores for a recommended retail price of € 25,000 plus
VAT.
