Fujitsu delivers 40GB automotive-class hard disk drives
Advanced altitude, temperature tolerant and handles rugged, outdoor environments
14 March, 2007 — Fujitsu Europe Limited., today announced its global launch of the MHW2040AC Parallel ATA (PATA) 2.5-inch mobile hard disk drive (HDD) for extreme environments. Fujitsu’s new navigation series HDDs features a storage capacity of 40GB*, with strong temperature and altitude tolerance as well as exceptional shock and vibration resilience.
The navigation series of hard drives feature impressive operating specifications, including a temperature range tolerance of between -30°C and 85°C, making it an ideal option for outdoor applications, such as automated money teller machines (ATMs), point-of-sale (POS) systems, automatic-ticketing machines, and automotive GPS devices. The MHW2040AC series will ship in the second quarter of 2007.
Outstanding technology and proven Fujitsu quality helps distinguish this latest, third generation of navigation hard drives. “The cost and performance factors of these storage technologies make them the obvious choice for customers, especially for application at POS stations or outdoors,” comments Georg Dietsch, Director Storage Products Group EMEA. “Our developers have once again confirmed our technological leadership in the storage market for high-performance hard drives with a small form factor.”
Hard Disk Drive Specifications
Fujitsu designed the MHW2040AC hard disk drive series to provide specifications that are essential for today's extreme computing
applications. These include an ambient temperature tolerance from -30°C to 85°C, operating shock resistance of 300G (2ms),
storage capacity of 40GB, rotational speed of 4,200RPM, up to 8MB buffer size, an average track-to-track seek time of 1.5ms,
operations in relative humidity from 8% to 90% (RH), and an average idle power consumption of 0.7W.
Note: One gigabyte (GB) = one billion bytes; accessible capacity will be less and actual capacity depends on the operating
environment and formatting.
Buffer: Small portion of buffer memory is used for drive firmware control.
