Fujitsu Releases Compact, Multi-Function IP-KVM Switch
New Solution Combines flexibility and scalability with secure and stable remote communications
8 November, 2006 — Fujitsu Europe has expanded its System Product offering with today’s release of an IP-KVM switch. This device gives one local and up to four remote users secure access and control of computers (such as PC/IA/Unix servers) via a graphical user interface over any TCP/IP network without using special software or drivers.
Fully compatible with Virtual Network Computing (VNC), the SERVIS™ FX-7000NP IP KVM switch boosts network management efficiency by allowing remote users to securely reboot the system, access the BIOS, install new or update existing software, and have full control over the keyboard and mouse.
Log-in and password authentication, as well as a simple firewall, prevent unauthorised access. Transferred data is protected by 128-bit SSL encryption and SSH tunnelling. An access log, protected by RADIUS authentication, can also be stored on the device for review by the administrator.
The FX-7000NP series supports multi-platform environments and is browser and network independent as well as compatible with most electronic KVM switches for cascaded configurations. It supports up to UXGA (1600 x 1200) video resolution at 60, 75 and 85Hz. The FX-7000NP series automatically selects the best data transmission rate for the network. Bandwidth restrictions can also be set manually to conserve network resources. The minimum bandwidth for remote server operation is 64Kbps, however, 400Kbps is optimal.
The device features PS/2 ports (for keyboard and mouse) and a VGA port (for monitor) for direct local console access that is functional even while the network is down. Redundancies include server connection ports (Mini Din 8 pin, D-Sub 15 pin, USB), LAN port (RJ 45), Serial console port for IP-KVM control (RJ 45) and dual power supplies.
Using a special USB connection, users can create a virtual 1.44Mbyte floppy or 8Mbyte RAM disk within the FX-7000NP’s internal memory for data exchanges between the two devices. The remote console can perform application updates and operating system reinstalls using CD-ROM emulation through an image file server (http) on the network.
The metal-housed device measures 7.87in (W) x 6.29in (D) x 1.63in (H) and has an available 19-inch rack-mount kit. UK, USA, German, Japanese and Korean keyboards are supported. In addition, the FX-7000NP series also supports specialised Sun keyboards as well.
The SERVIS FX-7000NP series is available immediately from £795
