We have an on-site Demonstration Centre where customers can see our technology in action. Why not make an appointment to come and speak directly with our experts about your business needs and learn more about how our innovations can enhance the security, performance and efficiency of your systems and organisation.
Forum
In February 2006 we held our first European Technology Forum with the aim not only of demonstrating the latest inventions to emerge from Fujitsu’s laboratories but also to provide an opportunity for our customers and eminent professionals from the worlds of commerce and research to get together and discuss the significance and applications of the next generation of technology. This is now a prestigious annual event which in 2008 will be held in June at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in the City of London "Fujitsu European Technology Forum 2008".

Services and Solutions Research Division

Research Division Overview
Services and Solutions Research Division (SSR) is a relatively small, dynamic team providing novel solutions to the harder problems in distributed systems, such as Cloud Computing,. We are currently expanding our development portfolio to include environmentally focused solutions. Our outputs are prototype products and services, technical strategies, standards, and patents aimed at improving the quality and competiveness of Fujitsu products and services. Our current research and development activities include green technology for data centers and technology for Platform and a Service (PaaS) and Cloud Computing.
Person Specification
Candidates should be comfortable working in a research environment and be prepared to change and adapt on both short and long-term timescales. The generation of new ideas and their presentation inside and outside the group should come naturally on technical and non-technical levels. These interactions are usually across international and cultural boundaries and are often in the context of international projects or work in standards bodies.
Candidates are expected to be driven, self-motivated and goal focused; able to plan and finish tasks on time to a high standard, keen to learn about new technologies; and able to turn ideas into services and products.
Role
The successful candidate will develop new ideas that reduce the CO2 produced by economic activities. The group is currently looking at making the operation of data centers more efficient through a holistic approach to their management using an approach that combines an understanding of the important processes (from the mechanical and electrical infrastructure, through the IT equipment to the services provided by the data centre) with simulation integrated into management processes. The successful candidate will contribute to this area, but also be expected to develop new applications of this holistic approach to other areas such as smart grids or mobile networks.
Principal Responsibilities
- Develop new ideas combining an understanding of system, business and human processes with understanding the physical and engineering characteristics.
- Architect solutions that implement these ideas in the real world.
- Implement in code from proof of concept through to near production quality that realizes these solutions.
- Socialise the ideas inside and outside Fujitsu.
Skills
In SSR the development of new skills is the norm rather than the exception, so specific skills are not required, but any of the following would be useful:
- Able to express ideas in proof of concept and production quality code
- A background in engineering or applied physics with a broadly technical education and interest in applying new ideas to new areas
- Adaptable, willing to learn new fields and develop new skill sets
- Environmental/Green experience or interest
- Mathematical modeling and simulation (e.g. process modeling, queuing theory, ...)
- Communication skills, report writing and presentation skills
- Numerical analysis and related software systems
- Project management and administration
- Java design and development
- PhD in a relevant field
- Software engineering processes
- Technical expertise in a particular area, e.g. security, networking, etc.
