1. About this program

This program is a tool for correcting searchable PDF files created with ScanSnap S500.

** What you can correct in the PDF file
   * You can correct the /ToUnicode stream of code in a PDF file.

2. What the ScanSnap PDF Converter file includes

The "ScanSnap PDF Converter" file consists of the following:

 +\PDFLWrp.dll:      Module for operating PDF Library

 +\ToUnicode.txt:    A file in which the /ToUnicode stream to be replaced with 
 |                   the original one is described
 +\Readme.txt:       Readme [This file]

 +\PDFL60.DLL:       Adobe PDF Library 6.0 file group

3. Operating environment

      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Professional
      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition
      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional

4. Considerations for installing

  * Log on as a user with Administrator privileges, and then install the program.

  * Use characters other than those below to name a directory in which the  
    program will be installed.
    If they are used, the program may malfunction.

5. Types of correctable PDF file

   * ScanSnap Manager V4.0L10 to V4.0L16: PDF files created as searchable ones
   * ScanSnap Organizer V3.0L10 to V3.0L12: PDF files converted into searchable  
     ones

    ** How to check if PDF files are those described above
     * Start up Acrobat, and then select "File" -> "Document Properties" to open  
       the "Document Properties" dialog box.
     * In the dialog box, select the "Description" tab, and then check 
       "Application" under"Description" (* 2-1) and "PDF Producer" under 
       "Advanced" (* 2-2).

     * 2-1: before conversion    PFU ScanSnap Manager 4.0.X 
                                 (X is a number from 10 to 16 inclusive)                          
                                 PFU ScanSnap Organizer 3.0.X 
                                 (X is a number from 10 to 12 inclusive)
     * 2-2: before conversion    Adobe PDF Scan Library 2.1

6. Things you should keep in mind when executing this program

   [] Even if created with S500, the following types of PDF file cannot be 
      corrected:
      * Password-locked PDF files
      * PDF files that an electronic signature or a time stamp is applied to
      * PDF files that are modified by using another application
       (e.g. PDF files OCRed with Acrobat or similarj

   [] All files in a folder(s) with a name starting with "SS_BACKUP_" are not 
      targeted even though such a folder is in the folder intended for correction  
      with ScanSnap PDF Converter.

   [] Do not specify a folder on a network as the folder intended for correction.
      Do not write protect the said folder.

   [] Do not access or update the said folder during correction.

7. About the log file

   [] When correction is complete, a log file is always created in the same 
      folder with the startup file.

   [] In the log file, corrected files are listed as well as uncorrected files.
