All rights reserved. * ******************************************************************** This file contains information about ScanRight VirtualReScan (VRS) functionality that has been added to the product since the documentation was printed. It also includes a procedure that explains how ScanRight VRS version 1.02 users can upgrade to version 1.03. Additionally, this file contains Technical Support information. ============================= New Functionality ============================= ScanRight VRS now includes the following functionality: 1. Applications using a TWAIN scanning interface will now be able to acquire an image using the VRS scanner driver. 2. Intelligent contrast/brightness adjustments are now provided for both the front side and the back side of double-sided documents. 3. Intelligent contrast/brightness adjustments are now available when you scan with the flatbed feeder. 4. Automatic black border removal is now enabled so that VRS removes any black border that remains after an image is cropped. 5. From the VRS Interactive Properties dialog box - About tab, you can view the VRS Software version. 6. The Skew tab will now allow the user to manually correct the skew up to 360 degrees. 7. Improvements have been made to provide better image quality when you scan thin documents, or documents that contain text on top of a dark background. ================================= Upgrading from ScanRight VRS 1.02 ================================= If you currently have ScanRight VRS 1.02 installed, use the following procedure to upgrade to ScanRight VRS 1.03. UPGRADE PROCEDURE ----------------- This release consists of both a software update and new firmware for your Fujitsu ScanRight VRS-enabled scanner. The update procedure is simple, and it should take only a few minutes per scanner. 1. Run the ScanRight103.exe file available for download from the Fujitsu ScanRight support web site at http://www.fcpa.com. This executable will install some temporary files on your system and then automatically launch the ScanRight VirtualReScan setup. 2. Install ScanRight VRS 1.03 into the same directory that contains your previous version of ScanRight VRS. The setup program automatically detects the proper directory for installation. 3. After the software installation is complete, reboot your computer if the setup program prompts you to do so. 4. From the Microsoft Windows Start menu, choose the Run command. A Run dialog box will appear. 5. Type "C:\Program Files\Kofax\Imgctls\Bin\fwwizard.exe" or click Browse to locate the fwwizard.exe installed on your system. 6. The VirtualReScan Firmware Update Wizard - Introduction dialog box will appear. Follow the instructions on the screen. Select Typical Update to ensure that all functionality of your ScanRight VRS scanner will be updated to version 1.03. Click Next. 7. Select the Auto Detect button to automatically detect the scanner model installed. You should see the following: Scanner Type: Fujitsu VRS firmware Ver.: Not Available Click Next. 8. The firmware files FUJITSU.BIN, FUJITOP.ASI, and KATE.ASI will now be uploaded to your scanner. It will take several minutes. When you see the "VirtualReScan firmware update successfully completed" message, click Finish. 9.
