ETERNUS6000 Achieves the World's Highest Performance in a Single System
Enterprise IT storage systems need to confront an unprecedented and dramatic environmental change. Most traditional IT systems
have been configured based on a single mainframe or UNIX platform now, however heterogeneous environments, where different
types of servers coexist, are becoming the prevailing trend. This trend brings with it expectations of storage consolidation,
effective management, high availability, and high performance.
To fulfill such requirements, Fujitsu is providing highly scalable enterprise disk storage systems. Since October 2003, ETERNUS6000,
designed using state-of-the-art technology in combination with high-availability and performance technologies garnered from
mainframe development, has been making its mark.
ETERNUS6000 has proven to be the highest-performance storage system in the world. In an SPC Benchmark-1™ performance
test defined by the Storage Performance Council (*Note 1), an ETERNUS6000 model 800 has established a world record (*Note
2) for a single-system configuration.
*Note 1: Storage Performance Council (SPC) is a nonprofit institute for evaluation of storage system performance, in which
major storage vendors participate.
*Note 2: As of March 3, 2004.
High-Performance Proven by SPC-1 Benchmark Test

Fujitsu performed the test based on the Benchmark-1™ defined by the Storage Performance Council. In this test, an
ETERNUS6000 model 800 recorded SPC-1 IOPS™ =69,241.73. This is more than double the previous highest record - 33,496.
57 by an ETERNUS3000 model 600.
The result of this test is available at the Storage Performance Council (SPC) web site.

ETERNUS6000 Architecture
All components in ETERNUS6000 storage systems are redundantly equipped and have the ability to be concurrently exchanged in the event of a failure. This ensures the high-availability and reliability expected of mission-critical systems. For excellent scalability, connectivity and performance, ETERNUS6000 employs an architecture that connects a maximum of four controller modules with host connection adapters (channel adapters) and drive connection adapters (device adapters) via high-performance routers.
The routers are connected via a mesh topology that provides excellent flexibility. This enables configuration flexibility
from a minimum of 60 disk drives to a maximum of 1,020 disk drives. The number of interfaces can also vary from 4 to 64 to
match the storage capacity, and types and numbers of servers.
Installed in each controller module, a 2.8GHz processor and cache, with a maximum capacity of 16GB, provide sufficient performance
to accommodate sudden surges in access. Each high-performance router uses LSI that integrates 3,000,000 gates, providing bandwidth
that can exploit the maximum performance of the controller modules. Routers and controller modules are connected via a mesh
topology. This level of connectivity ensures any server can access any storage space on the ETERNUS6000.
Summary
ETERNUS6000 has achieved the world's highest performance in a single system. But its advantages go far beyond just the performance; ETERNUS6000 storage systems provide excellent availability and scalability, with rich functionality to fully support your storage management requirements. ETERNUS6000 is the best choice for your future IT system.
