Fujitsu Launched New LSI for Vehicle Navigation System and Digital Dashboard
The world's first graphics controller equipped with ARM core for next-generation automotive application
Shanghai, April 10, 2007 — Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. today announced the availability of a system LSI chip, MB86R01 that incorporates various functions required for next-generation automotive devices into one chip. The new chip provides 2D/3D graphics, automotive communication control system, program-protect function and variety of media interface.
As such, it enables data mapping and information on the in-vehicle LAN from car-navigation device or digital dashboard to be integrated and thus to provide a comfortable driving environment with high-quality display. In dashboard systems such as an instrumental cluster, the digitalization of the panel is being developed in order to consolidate and transmit various pieces of information to the driver at the right time, from the viewpoint of the safety driving assist.
The new product adopts Fujitsu’s 90nm process technology and has accumulated a variegated peripheral I/O in single-chip, such as "ARM9 core", "Graphics display controller", " USB as a multimedia system interface", "CAN as an in-vehicle network controller", and "IDE66 (Parallel-ATA/ATAPI-4) as a hard disk interface".
The vehicle infotainment systems, especially car navigation devices have been expanding its market worldwide. Simultaneously, additional system cost reduction is required for the increasing needs to achieve higher display quality. Integrating multiple features as a single chip enables the required system cost reduction while keeping a high system performance. Fujitsu will continue to offer further technical advantages, enhancement of functions, and extend its GDC roadmap for automotive application.
[Feature]
- ARM926EJ-S
Fujitsu’s 90nm technology allows ARM9 core that is ideally suited for multimedia application to be operational for automotive grade. Adopting ARM enables software development in global-standard environment. - Graphics Display Controller
Dual-display and two types of video capture function are acceptable with Fujitsu’s graphics display controller that has been designed for automotive devices such as vehicle navigations. In addition to a smooth description of 2D/3D, it is possible to construct rear-entertainment environment more easily. - Memory Interface corresponding to DDR2
DDR2 (clock 166MHz / double edge 333MHz) and memory interface that enables high-speed operation are installed. High-speed memory access from CPU, graphics controller, and various peripheral I/F is made possible. - Various Peripheral I/O
CAN/Media-LB as automotive-range of communication system interface, USB/IDE66/ I2S as a multimedia system interfaces are installed. - Corresponds to the program protection function
Enables to process encrypted data code. Measures against an illegal reading/writing data are possible. - Software
Corresponding to various operation system and various kinds of middleware support such as an audio decoder.
