FUJITSU stages on a new MPEG decoding chip with high CPU frequency, aiming at the great outlook of the DSTB

Shanghai, August 24, 2006 — FUJITSU MICROELECTRONICS (SHANGHAI) CO., LTD has recently announced that as the leader of the market of DSTB chip, FUJITSU’s decoding chip series (MB86H2X) has been widely used in the CATV markets in big cities such as Shanghai and Dalian. This series of product boasts of many advantages like high level of intelligentization, richness in color and high integration. All these advantages can optimize the performance of the STB, achieving better quality-price ratio and satisfying various market demands. FUJITSU’s new series of MPEG decoding chip has been mass-produced with a very competitive quality-price ratio. So far it has been adopted by several domestic STB producers. In the domestic CATV market, FUJITSU’s MPEG decoding chip series has successfully assimilated many reception systems (including NDS, Nagravision, Irdeto Acces, novel-tongfang, China-crypt, Beijing Communication Technology Inc, etc) and all digital broadcasting (including EIS, AVIT, etc.)

In order to meet the growing demands of alternative application in China’s CATV market, FUJITSU plans to bring out in the second half year of 2006, a new member of the MPEG decoding chip, whose CPU frequency far exceeds 200MHz. The chip inside this new product is based on the speedy processor of ARC Tangent A4 and is able to smoothly run the alternative media pieces (such as Open TV, MHP, MHEG5, NDS Core, ect.), CA, digital broadcasting, DVB-CI and various online alternative application.

The new chip can be applied in CATV, satellites or ground STB. The combination of its triple-way TS apparatus and IDE inlet can perform the simultaneous functions of burning, playing and even transferring videos.

The two inside video decoders can decode two videos at the same time. The picture-in-picture function helps CATV dealers meet the customers’ demand of realizing the function of mock picture-in-picture.

The user’s interface sets the new chip apart from its counterparts. Its five image planes and advanced OSD flash protection provide the users with boundless cultivation space. The OSD with 24-digit authentic color and flexible zooming function of MPEG video can create fascinating OSD and freewheeling videos.

One of the new chip’s features is its super integration. It contains speedy USB2.0 OTG Module, enabling the STB to connect with a USB device such as a movable disk.

The design of the new chip is based on the currently-produced MPEG decoding chip series. The basic hardware module is identical and the software completely compatible. The STB producers who have already been using FUJITSU’s MPEG decoding chip, can apply the software in the new chip in a time as short as possible.

In 2007, FUJITSU is going to bring out several new generations of highly clear STB chip, which are able to carry out decoding functions such as MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264, VC1, etc. and better serve the expanding domestic and foreign markets of highly clear STB.

In an effort to assist the clients to take the first lead in the ever-changing market, FUJITSU and its project partners have built up a team with over 100 engineers, providing STB producers with all-round solutions and timely tech support.
