Mr. Edwin Kwong, Senior Vice President of Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Asia Pacific, was invited to be a visiting researcher by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)

This heralds a new era of cooperation between Microelectronics and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.


Shanghai, July 31, 2006 — Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) announced that Mr. Edwin Kwong, Senior Vice President of Microelectronics Co., Ltd, Asia Pacific. was invited to be the university’s visiting researcher by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Mr. Edwin Kwong accepted with great pleasure the letter of appointment and the badge of SJTU.

Mr. Edwin Kwong said that the vigorous growth of the integrated circuit industry can never be achieved without the nation-wide talent cultivation program conducted by universities, of which SJTU is among the best. To Fujitsu, a leading supplier of China’s semi-conductor industry, the cooperation with China’s top universities is vital. For many years Fujitsu has fully committed to be a member of the Excellent Enterprises in China, with its involvement in and support of China’s education a core component. At the university Mr. Edwin Kwong also delivered an excellent speech entitled “Car Electronics – A Chapter of Fujitsu”, centered around the much concerned aspect of car electronics industry. Through the speech, Mr. Edwin Kwong let his listeners share Fujitsu’s advanced technology and experience and was warmly applauded by faculties and students present.

Vice President of the School of Microelectronics of SJTU, Mr. Fu Yuzhuo said that the School of Microelectronics is an important link in the buildup of Shanghai’s IC industry. It is charged with the important task of cultivating talents in advanced integrated circuit design and manufacturing technology. Fujitsu is well known for its strength in this field, with its products widely used in the industry. Cooperation with a globally leading enterprise such as Fujitsu is very helpful in boosting the School’s IC specialist cultivation program and IC industrialization to international standards.

Mr. Edwin Kwong also pointed out that cooperation between Fujitsu and SJTU will take the form of multiple activities, such as academic forums and competitions, through which Fujitsu will deliver and update its cutting-edge technology information as well as market trends to faculties and students specialized in this field. This way Fujitsu can effectively help cultivate talents to better meet the social demand.

It is learnt that Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) has forged cooperative relations with many of China’s famous colleges and universities. Each year Fujitsu holds activities including contests in the university and the society as well as university speech tours. In addition Fujitsu has donated chips valued a total of US$ 5000, including MCU, image processors and memories, to the School of Microelectronics of SJTU and The East China Science and Technology University respectively for teaching experiments and scientific research. All these symbolize Fujitsu’s persistent contribution to promoting its exchange and cooperation program with China’s tertiary institutes.
